here ya go on a Tuniq Tower..

With 800MHz ram you are doing good to be able to get that high. At 3.825GHz you are using a fsb of 450 which means the ram is overclocked to 900MHz. To get much further you are going to need to get some faster 1066MHz ram to open up the higher fsb options (up to 533). You can verify it's the ram holding you back by lowering the cpu multiplier to 7 and see if you can raise the fsb much more. I tend to doubt that you will be able to get more than a couple more fsb out of it.

And it is possible that your Q9550 simply won't OC much over that. It's less likely than the ram, but it is a possibility. Not all Q9550's will hit 4.0 or higher, especially those with a VID at the extreme low or high end of the scale.

it took me a bunch of tweaking even using 1066 ram to run my 750i FTW board @ 4ghz it never was 100% stable but for the most part it was, a random freeze now and then

good luck..

Here's my most stable overclock

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1874004

When I took out my PC6400 modules I've been able to boot in 4GHz, but core #0 and #1 would instantly fail @ blend ... small fft runs forever without problem
post #2115 of 2408
When you run Prime, a hard lock or BSOD (especially the 0x124 BSOD} is usually lack of vcore or vtt, but when one core fails a prime test while the others plug away it is generally a mch or ref voltage. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the Asus bios settings to know specifically what changes to make, but the Intel Motherboard Forum here should have something on it. Or maybe KingT will drop by and give some advice as he's familiar with them.

Asus P5Q motherboard is only capable of doing 450 - 460MHz FSB max with a C2Quad and to be stable in P95 Large FFT test or BLEND..

It's because it has only three CPU GTL settings available in BIOS (0.61x,0.63x and 0.65x) and that option is crucial for going over 450MHz FSB mark..

If that vanilla P5Q motherboard (and P5Q Pro,P5Q Pro TURBO,P5Q TURBO) had advanced CPU GTL settings available in BIOS then you should be able to make it P95 BLEND/Large FFT stable @ 4GHz..

Sorry dude but you need a better P45 motherboard for 4GHz or more on a Q9550 (P5Q Premium/Deluxe,P5Q-E or a Gigabyte EP45 UD3P/UD3R)..

I have managed to get my Q9550 stable @ 4GHz in P95 even though I have P5QC motherboard which is the same as P5Q just with DDR2/DDR3 support..

It's because I have great Q9550 which does not require a fine tuning on CPU GTL voltage like 95% of them do..

already thought it was going to be because of the motherboard, oh well I'm fine with how it runs now anyway and I can still use all of my memory sticks.
End of this year I'm upgrading to LGA2011 platform, will be a new challenge to optimize

Well... i made it to 3.4ghz(8.5x400/1.25v) like i wanted, havent OC'd it any further, so im content for now.

Edit - Im using Intel-Burn instead of prime95, its supposed to be more intense and takes much less time for checking stabilty... use as shown and your golden.

At 3.4GHz you are basically running at stock speeds. You shouldn't even need to raise the vcore to run at that speed and no stability testing would really be necessary.

Your considering 2.83 to 3.40 to be like stock speeds, an increase of 600mhz, i dont follow.

I might make it back to stock vcore, i started out with 1.32v and slowly working my way down after each stability test... intel-burn passes, but prime95 crashes(not fail), i'll keep testing though.

thanks
