Im alittle confused about my mb. Evga 132-yw-e179-ftw. What is cpu fsb voltage and what exactly does it do. How high can i go safly? I got decent airflow in my case... Raising the cpu fsb from 1.1 to 1.4 made it almost stable at 4Ghz so it seems that it matters more that cpu voltage to go "realy high". The multi is locked on 8.5 so I need an very high fsb, so im curious if any know what would be safe to push on cpu fsb. Where is the part located on my mb? The sensors are all wrong so i need to check whit fingers for heat on my mb:-( Not the most reliable way,hehe, but better than nothing i ques.

How high can i push the q9550? 1.45vore? temps? and what is the best monitor program? Im curently using realtemp. What about all these stuff witch downclock cpu while idle. Do i leave them on?c1 or what ever it is called.

Edit: When using prime95, shall i use smal ffts? Or large? Care to explain the diffrence between the 3?

fsb voltage is the same as fsb term voltage. If I remember correctly, going too high is a bad idea. 1.5 I believe is the max, but you should shoot for the lowest value possible. I think this setting is what contributed to degradation on the 45nm quads.

cpu vcore is user specific, Intel max is 1.45 if I remember correctly, however people have run 1.5 24/7 with no issue, provided temps were good. Max temp should be less than 70c for everyday use IMO. Prime should be small fft's first, to establish adequate vcore and cpu stability, then blend for memory and northbridge subsystems. I recommend 12 hours of each.

hell is this thread/club still alive? if so i post back when i get my replacement board in. i totally have q9550 and don't plan on replacing it for years.

Where is the fsb located? You are sure my mb can handle 1.5? is it perhaps located in the cpu( if so im lucky, that temps at least seems to be accurate) Im guesing that it shall not get to hot, but my mb clearly has wrong temps readings on my system. It claims to be 80. I have touched all parts, I think, and 0 of them is any hotter than I can hold my finger as long as I want there.

When a worker stoped working, error or something like that, this would be due to low vcore? Or can it be that my fsb voltage is to low. I have after all rasied the cpu fsb quite mutch.

So I have your blessing to use 1.35 fsb voltage and 1.43 vcore? ;-)

This froze after 3-5min. So im going up from 1.32 cpu fsb to 1.4 and see if it get allittle more stable. If that doesnt work, I try raysing the cpu vcore, right?

Im "quite new" whit oc and hardware it self, so forgive if I ask alot of stupid question ;-P Do I leave vdrop on or off? Im currently has it off, as well as the fetures that slows Mhz after load. This is the smartest thing to do when oc, right?

Edit: Now a worker has stopped working. That is better than a total freeze, isnt it? I will try 1.5 on fsb just to see if it gets better. Or shall i allso raise the vcore as well? Perhaps put it alittle high just so I know that it is getting enough voltage so that I can find out how high cpu fsb must be?

Well, after turning up the vcore to 1.44 and 1.5 on cpu fsb. If this indeed prove to be stable, what do i do next? Lowering cpu fsb a notch and try again and try to find the lowest fsb voltage that is stable at 3.9Ghz, then tuning down the cpu vcore? And what about this vdrop. Shall I leave this on or off?

Would you guys who has knowlege about intels q series consider this an safe settup? I see the temps are raising but they can get as high as 70 and no damage is done, right?

holy crap! a 1.8 ghz bus! Have you adjust your memory clock ratio? it hasn't hit 100C or caught fire so i don't' see why it isn't safe. I ran my vcore up to 1.5v on so-so air cooling for short time for testing purposes. (not the best for the chip, not the worst)

My sensors isnt working but I cant find any hot spots on my hk so how bad can it be,hehe. But where is the fsb located? If this is stable im going up to 1.9GHz bus biggrin.gif

I figured out that at 3.9GHz the pc will not boot whit 1.25v fsb, raising it to 1.32v made it boot and is running small ffts as we speak. Im using 1.44vcore and will prime smal ffts for some hours,then lower it alittle, but i suspect it actually need around 1.44 to get stable at 3.9Ghz. The cpu fsb on the other hand seems to get along whit only 1.32, and as I understand that is whitin reason.
But is it safe to turn of vdrop? Its in red writing in my bios redface.gif

If i decide to have it on 3.9Ghz, would you sugest going down on the vcore after about 30min of ffts untill i get an error, then go up alittle again? This is a good way to find lowest possible vcore for the speed?

Edit: Ive moved on to trying to prime, it crashed in under 2 sek. ive lowered the ram speed and raised the cpu fsb to 1.4.( any who know is this just is related to the cpu or do it relates to the ram as well?) Im open for sugestion to how to get higher ram speeds.
At 3.7GHz I can runn them on 18333Mhz and now it get problem whit speed like this,hehe.



Can you explain what fsb:dram is? Does the timings look good enough?

I am corect in thinking that 3.9GHz whit this ram is better than 3.72Ghz whit 1833Mhz? Im only gaming mainly, but apparently my old gtx 460 768mb has more power in store, i actually see improvement for ever Mhz im going up. So im curious of how long that will happen. I thought that i would gain nothing realy, but it actually plays mutch smoother and whit considereble higher fps:-)

Edit. what program do you recomend using for checking cpu performance? a free program witch suits q9550?



weee, this looks promising. I still cant understand the numbers hwmonitor is showing me, because all the heatseanks are not very warm at all. Must be an broken sensor or something. What does hwmonitor mean whit system and cpu 1?

Have I understood it right. If it is stable on smal ffts the cpu it self is stable. Then I need to get the memory stable witch proved to be quite hard.

Wow thats some good temps mine are almost that high (low 60's during IBT mid-high 50's with small fft) at 1.3 volts @ 4ghz (still stability testing so far IBT/Small fft passed)

As for temps i like to keep them under 70C due to changes in ambient temps depending on what time of the year.
For voltage intel stated max is 1.36volt on the vcore but most people have gone up to about 1.5 vcore and been fine. Imo your pretty much at the limit with your air cooling now. If you want to see what the max temps your even gonna get run Intel burn Test it tends to give the highest temps.
