you need at least 24 hours to be stable after that. i'd give it another 24/7 with "mixed" I never knew what small FFTs were for the longest time, so i just used "mixed". which you do want to so you can make sure your ram is stable since small FFTs will not test your ram.

Imo 24 hours is a waste unless you plan to fold i mean when do you ever even use your cpu at 100% for more then a couple hours besides folding.

I do 12 hours of small/large/blend and never had a problem.

Absolute stability is only acquired through Folding, IMO. I run Prime95 through one round and start Folding. I haven't ever been completely stable. I usually have to either back my clock off or add voltage or tweek other settings, depending on temps and what actually brings on the instability.

I leave mine on 24/7 Also you do not understand. just because something s say 7 hours stable doesn't mean it's good to go for 7 hours. Critical errors can happen at any time. 24 hour testing is considered the point where the CPU has been bombarded with as many as strings of data as possible to check for any vulnerabilities in it's operation.

So no it's not pointless.

can you run slightly unstable, yeah. i know some people who do that too.

If we want to get skeptical here, running 24 hours might not be enough, there's no proof that it might not have failed the next time, or two after that.

Yup. I often times run well over 24 hours just to see how temps and stability are. I use one my other computers in the mean time.

i am having problem in 7-z during compression, my cpu is not being used to 100%. is it because my hdd is bottleneck or why? i mean i have 4 cores @3.4ghz but during compression cpu is taxed between 10-20%
Solution: change the compression method to LZMA2 then all cores will be used at 100%

didnot wanted to make a thread so just wanted to say that Q9550@3.4GHz still rocks, see latest review by toms hardware:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ivy-bridge-wolfdale-yorkfield-comparison,3487-10.html
Crysis 3 is terrible but playable, and in all other latest games @1080 Q9550@3.4GHz holds its own. still no need to upgrade. and if you hook 1440p/1600p gpu gets taxed enough that cpu bottleneck is just few fps.

i gues unless you go SLI/Crossfire, overclocked Q9550 suffices. who wants to spend 400-500 bucks for few fps anyway?
