2 sticks or 3?

Thread Starter
So, long story, I got a third RAM stick identical to the two I had already (1GB Patriot) - and I have three RAM slots on my mobo. Naturally, I installed the third stick, but my PC seems to lag a bit more now - is it just me imagining things?

With 3 sticks it'll revert back to single channel. Of course it won't be as fast as dual channel. Just go with 2 higher-capacity sticks, better if identical.

Well, right now I have 3 1GB sticks, and no money for new sticks. Am I better with 2 sticks or 3?

Stick with two sticks... dual channel is better than single channel, and isn't worth the performance increase of an extra GB

Dual Channel increases performance by 5 - 10%, up to 20% max.

Go for the extra third stick if your finding yourself lagging due to lack of memory, going from DC to SC won't affect performance noticeably.

Make sure the stick of RAM isn't faulty and is setup correctly in the BIOS.
