Just finished $700 build for client (Lots of Pics) - Page 4

ugggh, zalman was a bad choice. should have gone with an xigamtek or tuniq tower.

otherwise, i like the build
also, i would have gone with a 4850.

i agree on the Zalman. Maybe the kid wanted the Zalman? It is a nice looking fan but a Tuniq tower and a Xigamtek are definately better choices. The Antec 900 IMO is an overpriced flashy kids case so it should suit him well.

Thread Starter
The Zalman completes the look that I wanted. Thus, why I chose it. I also got it used for only $40 shipped so it was a great deal. I have two Xigmatek coolers and they are great. But, the Xig and the Tuniq IMO are ugly and would have taken away from the "Bling" factor that I wanted to present with this build.

And as I already stated, this will not be overclocked, so this E7300 will never see over 40C. An aftermarket cooler is not even necessary for this, so saying "X is better and you should have gotten it instead" really makes zero difference in this case. This was all a matter of vanity.

Using a 32 bit OS is very 2003, however sparing the customer from purchasing a new operating system was a good move.

You could always investigate enabling PAE to try and address the extra memory you have.

To all of those who blindly suggest vista, does it feel nice to be trapped in a resource hog OS thats install footpring is somewhere near 15GB? I know I hate it and can only stand booting it up when I want DirectX to play games.

Vista wouldnt even be the answer to the 4GB issue, you throw the word vista at it without mentioning that the fundamental problem would be sticking with a 32bit OS.

The kid can tap into the .4GB of memory when he needs that oomf... however when I run my system on max load I rarely exceed 3GB... with 8GB memory available and a 16GB pagefile on a 10K raptor.

Greg121986 did a good build, quit being wankers about choosing silly operating systems and silly coolers. Ohh you shoulda choose the black zalman, it keeps my CPU cooler bla bla bla.

Where's this resource hog? I don't have that problem. Once you tweak vista x64 (you should like tweaking, isn't that all you do in linux?) a bit, it runs better than XP x86 for sure.

If your baseline for performance is XP then I feel very sad for you.

Yes there is tweaks that you can perform to vista, but you cannot change the way the OS was fundamentally built... Can you do anything about the balooning registry hive? why does your OS get slower over time?

Dont get me wrong, i just switched to linux like 5 months ago... and I still use windows for games. But every second I spend in windows makes me ask the question 'why the hell would they implement it this way?' and every second in linux makes me say 'damn I sure do appreciate the way this was implemented'

Linux is way too confusing and I don't care to learn how to use it. I put Ubuntu on the PS3 and hated it. I tried a live CD on my PC had hated that too. It's a preference, and I prefer windows. Much easier to use and what else is going to play my games?

lets say you live in Somalia today, your country is war torn and there is specific ways that you interact with people due to the societal and economic pressures. You lead a struggled life, but you get to do one thing... chew Khat all day long... it makes you feel good so you can survive in your current situation.

Now if someone offered for you to fly to another country, where there was stable government, no war lords, a sound economy with available work, a beautiful new house to live in and a bunch of social workers that spend the majority of their time fixing up your house and making sure everything is going well for you... but you had to assimilate to a new culture and try to understand why these people live the way they do because of the societal and economic pressures they are under. And you couldn't chew Khat all day long because drugs were illegal... but they told you that anytime you wanted, you could step over the border and drug out.

Now coming to this new country would force you to change the way you live your life, however most would say it would be fore the better... and you would still be able to pick and choose on old tendencies... it would just be hard to deal with a new way of life until that became your way of life.

What are you on about? Your metaphor seems over the top to me.

The guy built a gaming rig for a kid . Why would he use anything but windows?
