Is this a pre production GA-EX58 board, because the color scheme on the production models isn't as, uhm, colorful?

what they do is to set 1.4v in bios, the max safe is 1.365v I think. But this is in real time! When you set it to 1.4v in bios it will drop down to 1.32-1.38v most likely, depending on your vdrop on the motherboard

Actually the voltages they recommend are not dangerous at all for the i7. Any voltage above the stock voltages MAY have an effect on the lifespan of a chip, but that is different for any and all chips. Just like their overclocking guide states the voltages in general terms the idea of a "max" voltage is a guideline and that is it. For example I have a stable 4.2GHz overclock at 1.35v (in bios) to vCore and 1.3015v to the QPI (in bios). Every chip is different. I know folks who can't get 4ghz on anything less than 1.52v on their vCore. Dangerous or not they still do it because they want the speed for benchmarks. If you don't feel the difference in speed between 3.8 and 4GHz then you can lower your voltages so you feel comfortable eh?

But there seems to be a big difference on the QPI voltage. They are running at 1.5 but the max seems to be 1.35 according to Intel. That sounds like a big difference.

I tried to follow the guide, but being that I don't have a Gigabyte board(Asus P6T) I think I probably didn't follow it correctly. So far I have it a 3.8Ghz, but I still want to reach that 4Ghz mark.
