Vista Problem Ethernet/NIC???

Thread Starter
Hi, my computer was working fine last night, i went to turn it on in the morning and msn didn't load so i troubleshooted that and it came up saying the IP was wrong. i then opened up CMD and ipconfiged it, it came up with:-

Media State : Media Disconnected

i've looked on google and i can't find anything releveant to mine.

i then looked in device manager and seen there was a driver issue with my VPN-X (NIC) with the error

"windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. the driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39)

my nvidia Ethernet Card is working fine though. My isp is BT, so i put the bt disc in and got it to check the connection of my hub and all it said was the ethernet cable wasn't working when i know it is. my network has gone in the network/sharing folder in Control Panel. when i make a new one it doesn't connect..troubleshoot that and it says error with connection.

what do i need to do to get internet access? if i download another driver for my VPN-X do i get the Client version? i'm not even sure if i connect to the internet with the VPN-X.

i'm on vista 64.

In Command Promt, type this:
Code:
ipconfig /release && ipconfig /renew
I don't know if it will solve your problem, but you could at least try. If that doesn't work, uninstall your ethernet driver and use another computer to download it, and then try re-installing it and then entering the above code again.

i've tried that release/new in cmd and it said

"the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation.

i'll try getting a new driver.

cheers for your help mate.

edit...i uninstalled the whole VNC and downloaded the latest one with the latest driver and the same error is still coming up.

maybe a problem in regidet?

i think it probably time for a reformat ?

First, I know it sounds silly but, make sure everything is connected.

This is always the second thing I do. Also, afterwards if you have a secondary computer that is connecting to the internet currently you should try logging into your router and checking your DHCP (How many connections are allowed at one time) settings and Clients Table (How many people are using your router currently). Try booting in safe-mode too.
