2 x TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX, stability issues

Thread Starter
I have 2 sets of CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX (Total of 4GB) installed on my P5Q-EM ASUS motherboard. Since they are 1024 DIMMs, I have all four slots occupied.

Standard timing for these modules is 5-5-5-18 and voltage is 1.8V. At the beginning, I experienced several memory problems, BSODs, etc.

I read that it was sometimes hard on the MoBo to handle all 4 DIMMS, so I increased DRAM voltage to 1.9V at it has improved a lot (no issues since). Any thoughts pls...

Now, when overclocking (3MHz at a time), I noticed that at some point when I increase my FSB Speed, the MoBo switches something and the DRAM Frequency goes from above 800MHz (3 x 266+) to below 800 MHz.

Then I tried to force it to stay at the same ratio and tested DRAM frequency at 900 MHz. Seemed to run much faster than my other tests when ...

- Vista startup issues (services not loading) !!

Increased voltage to 1.96V, It improved and Vista loaded successfully, but when I was running PCMark05 & F@H concurrently (to see my max temps)...

- BSOD !!

Is it a matter of DRAM voltage?
Any suggestions?

Add a couple of notches to the northbridge (MCH).

Let me see if I got you...

My BIOS has options to change

- CPU Voltage - I'll leave it alone
- CPU PLL Voltage - I'll leave this alone too
- FSB Termination Voltage - I'll leave it too
- DRAM Voltage - Should I keep it at 1.90 or up to 1.96?
- NB Voltage - Increase 0.2V ?
- PCIE SATA Voltage - leave it alone too.

Thks for the quick response though. I am the office but as soon as I get home, I'll give it a try!

Those sticks should be fine up to 2.1v.
Northbridge probably needs to be around 1.4v

I was able to make the system stable using 2.0V for the memory, 1.26V for the NB and 1.16V for the CPU Vcore @ 3.05 GHz

I kept the memory running at 800 MHz by changing the FSB:RAM ratio.

I will keep testing to see if I can overclock the memory, once I improve case cooling.

Is there a way to monitor memory temperature?

for how much you could increased the bus speed?
i'll tell you why, i would like to buy these chips acctualy and i wanted to be sure i'll get to 430 atleast. (860mhz fictitious).
will it carry that speed?

I don't mind if the memory works on a higher speed than it's supposed to.
I just need a memory which is actualy capable of getting to that kind of speed.
The current memory that I have works on 840mhz. (Corsair xms2 675Mhz).

speaking of which, for my specific use, this also will do, OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 Reaper HPC 4GB Edition

right?, it costs much less than the corsair. and it's 1066mhz aswell.
gives me even more than 450mhz bus speed.
*** - i have p5b, it does not support dual channel 1066mhz, up to 800mhz only.
