Do i really need a Firewall? - Page 3

Theoretically, as long as you don't go to porn sites, bad sites, open weird emails, and pirate stuff, you shouldn't have to worry about having firewalls, antivirus programs, or other security crap. Mistakes can happen though so security software is usually a good idea. However, the best defense a computer has is user intelligence.

Use Avast for AV and Comodo for the FW.

Best combination.

Well I have my routers crappy packet filtering firewall as well.

im gonna be the jackass that didn't read the entire thread and say .. no you don't need a firewall at least not a software one and ill even go a step farther and say you don't even need a virus scanner either as long as you stay away from stupid stuff of course if your looking for warez and porn and things by all means if you are unlucky enough to use a Microsoft operating system then yes get some form of malware protection .. ive never seen the point of a firewall thats software these things can be high-jacked or knocked down. go with a good router and you'll be better off .. or dare i say .. switch your os to something less infected then MS windows

But..But....

Seriously, this is a very limited view of computer security. I wish it was that simple, but there are plenty of other way to compromise your computer without making you visit a "bad website" or clicking on an email attachment. Facebook has viruses, web cookie hijacking is quite easy, and the internet would not work without javascript, which is code executing on your desktop. And to be quite honest, digital criminals are not looking to infect your computer with a virus that pops up messages or deletes files. There are tons of ways to make money using botnets, email spam, and stealing your personal identifiable information.

I don't mean to be abrasive, but a few of us are trying to give valuable advice to the question you asked.

IMO you should run a software firewall and antivirus.

Like h3xw1z4rd said, Comodo Internet Security is a good firewall/antivirus client.
