I've just over tightened a screw on the mobo heatsink, Its the one screw above the south bridge, It's shafted the thread that was on the heatsink. What's best course of action from here?

Take a picture.. Maybe RMA the board.

Also.. Does it turn on?

its not the screw, It's the heat sink...I've completely trashed the thread inside

update...Its actually completely shattered the little "peg" of the heatsink

It says you're using the stock HS. So, unless I'm missing something, there are no threads. They just pop into the motherboard. Then you turn them to the left, and they pop out.

what about finding 2 nuts to screw. sandwich the heatsink between the 2 nuts.

or just buy a new Heatsink, they don't cost much. Stock heatsinks suck anyways.

Get a TRUE and then OC that baby, you have a good enough MB for it I think.

there arn't really whole heatsinks for this board, I've looked...and theres a pic after the break
post #8 of 22
Using the stock HSF on an E8600 is like......idk....letting an old grandma drive a ferrari or something . Just buy a good heatsink, like this one.

Edit: Oh, it's the NB heatsink? I'm not quite sure where the problem is, if you have a pic that would be helpful.
