Good mobo for phenom 2 - Page 3

Hey matey...

Just checking your alternate.be.... and saw these babies... might wanna consider them instead of the M3A78-T... save some cash maybe:

1. GigaByte GA-MA790GP-DS4H
2. MSI DKA790GX
3. MSI KA790GX
4. GigaByte GA-MA790GP-DS4

Id probably take a look at #1, and #2... #3 is not a good overclocker, but it is cheaper by 30 eur compared to 1 and 2, and 40 eur than M3A78-T... And #4 looks nice, but i wouldnt expect it to do wonders while OC-ing... altho it is probably better performer than #3

Cheers....

Foxconn doesn't seem to bad... 790GX SB750 for 115$. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813186150. Reviews seem good and should be a good overclocker.

Yeah well, OC isent really a priority. it's not like i'm gonna clock this phenom 240 to the max.

If boards #2 & #3 can deliver an OC arround 3.6/3.8 ghz them i'm happy enough.
Maybe these boards wont even reach that, I don't know.

Based on what can you actually tell if their OC capability is good or not.
If i could save 30€ it would be awesome so i can keep those savings for something else like a HSF or monitor.

Oh btw, i'm probably going with the TRUE 120 black as cpu cooler, i hear nothing but good stuff about these toys.

Nothing is sure about Phenom II... we wont know anything until the true benches come out... #3 is probably a good price/performance ratio motherboard... review here - not a good review tho ( i dont mean the mobo, but the way they do reviews), they actually say the board is not a good overclocker, but dont state if its cuz of the lack of options in BIOS or simply instability when OC'd ... I rate it as a lame review

Basically if the mobo has good power management, and good cooling on power management its usually a good indication on its performance. BIOS options too... try and find some reviews, and you may better see if that board fits your needs...
Frankly i was thinking of this board too... the only problem i see is tha lack of 2x4-pin CPU power connector (if you look right behind PS/2 connector on the mobo u can see theres only one 4-pin conn)

When it comes to cooling your hot new CPU i would really consider HR-01 Plus since it has wider spacing between fins than TRUE, and thus require less powerfull fan to move air efficiently (you need a fan with really good static pressure to get the most out of the TRUE)... And its an equally good performer as the TRUE, even better at low RPM's...
Running my Phenom at 3.0Ghz (1.4V) the temps are like this(and mind that its a 140W CPU, and warms up like crazy when voltage is increased):

800rpm ~52oC
1200rpm ~48oC
2000rpm ~44oC
2400rpm ~42oC

You might also take a look at:

1. OCZ Vendetta 2
2. Xigmateg HDT-S1283

which are also close to HR-01 Plus and TRUE with lower prices...
Heres a review comparing the two above side by side.... click me!
