Will this powersupply be sufficient?

I am now going to continue building my server... and I am looking at this antec earthwatts 380 psu to power it.

I am thinking of using a C2D, maybe 6 hard drives at the max, and a very low end video card, and possibly in the future even my Q6600 if I go i7 in a few months.

What do you guys think?

yes

HDD's use very little power. 10-15w each

Low end card 50w

A hard drive takes about 7-10 watts idle and up to 15-20 when seeking. I think that you should be fine with that, but with the deal newegg has right now, I would maybe get one a bit larger, just cause' you can

use code extra20 to get an extra 20% off power supplies right now...

Here is a 600w for $39.00 (less 20% possibly with code) after MIR

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...L1C-_-17341010 With MIR you should pay 39 bucks and get 20% off that possibly!

That depends, you have 27amps to work with.
you can overclock on it if you want to...you won't draw that much more power compared to stock even with a Q6600 on a C2D lol easy

thats a very solid PSU.

we are talking about less than 30w with an avg overclock.

Let me give you an idea of power draw, from two enthusiast class rigs:

Here are whole system power consumption figures for two power hungry cards.

Here is the GTX 280:

Tweaktown: 292
Tech Report: 299
techPowerUp: 293
Techgage: 321
MADSHRIMPS: 322
HotHardWare: 428
Hexus: 260
Hardware Canucks: 361
FiringSquad: 357
ExtremeTech: 304
PC Perspective: 369
Anandtech: 313.1
Average (Minus Club Overclocker): 326.6

The 4870X2:

Tweaktown: 431
Tech Report: 444
techPowerUp: 385
Techgage: 425
MADSHRIMPS: 420
HotHardWare: 469
Hexus: 366
Hardware Canucks: 428
FiringSquad: 480
ExtremeTech: 385
PC Perspective: 460
Anandtech: 452.1
Average (Minus Club Overclocker): 428.8

As you can see from these, you realy do not need much power at all.

Hexus might use a different method to gauge power consumption, due to their low figures. They might be figuring just the card's power draw, but they make no notes of this.

I found the following info though, from a flaky site, showing very high power draw for both cards:

Club Overclocker

4870X2: 564
GTX 280: 456

More than enough, the EA380 is.

My sig rig used 175w with a 7900gt, 3 hdd, DVD drive, 4 gigs of memory and OC to 2.9 maxed out.

My folding rig with an X2, 2 gigs memory, 1 HDD and 1 optical and a 9600 GSO only uses 170w whilke GPU and SMP folding (and has an EW380 in it). Idle is like 85w.

380w is fine, and the EW series is a solid PSU.
