Q6600 + P5Q Pro

Thread Starter
hey,

i've lurked the forums for quite some time now and finally decided to try and oc. the thing is i'm not sure at all if i know what to do and am afraid to mess something up. i have seen many threads with the same cpu/mobo but still couldn't fully understand.

so if anyone could help me with a sort of step by step it would be great.
my goal is to get to around 3.4 but i'll be satisfied with 3.0 too, i don't intend to oc the gpu/ram.

btw is it right that the ram speed is 400? i know you have to double it but shouldn't it be 500?

i attached some screens of cpu-z and coretemp.

thanks guys.

You should be able to hit 3.4, and I would be totally shocked if you couldn't hit 3.0GHz. All you need to do is increase the clock on your chip by small increments and make sure you boot into Windows, then do some stress tests on it (Prime95 for a long period of time will be the grail of stability, as well as playing games. SuperPi is a good program to test the stability of a clock very quickly, too). If it works, boot back into your BIOS and try a higher clock. Rinse and repeat.

For the ram, it is probably set to some auto-configure option. I'm not terribly familiar with that motherboard, but check those options. I have the same RAM btw, it's good.

I did a recent build with a Q6600 and a P5Q. I set the FSB to 380, set the strap to auto, set the ram to run as close to stock as possible. I then set the CPU vcore to 1.40v (each CPU OCs differently), set the transaction booster to common level 7 and the Ai twister to moderate.. For the other voltages I set the nb to 1.26v, the Pll to 1.52v, the FSB Term voltage to 1.4v and left the sb on auto.

Sorry for a less then detailed post. I types this out on my iPhone. So I don't have any screen shots for you.

Bad VID on that CoreTemp shot. Disable SpeedStep and C1E and retake this particular screenshot.

Yep that looks right. Getting to 3.0 should be easy for you; it is for virtually everyone with a Q6600 G0. You'll find it harder to get to 3.4, but it should be doable eventually.

Try this for 3.0GHz: FSB = 333, CPU ratio = 9, CPU Vcore = 1.35000, Loadline Calibration = Disabled. Should make a very easy OC.

disable loadline calibration for sure?

people over here http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...libration.html say to leave it enabled.

thank you for your help btw. +rep!
