Apologize for what? Because you believe raising your TV's brightness will magically give you High Definition quality? ROFLMAO

And there are countless differences in those screenshots btw. I suggest someone gets their eyes checked and opens the screens in 2 separate tabs.

EDIT:
It is correct though, Im not disagreeing. The quality of the Blu-Ray screens should be better but there is a massive difference already. If you believe upping your ~brightness~ levels will make your DVD versions look like the Blu-Ray versions, your eyes are messed up.

There are so many different variables that can affect how those screenshots came out, including personal bias. I'll be the first to say that not all BluRay movies are created equal though. I just picked up Dark Knight on BR...I haven't watched it yet but I'm confident that it'll be much better than straight DVD9 (but I don't plan on picking up a DVD copy to compare).

On another note, people often only consider video quality when talking about Blu Ray. That's only half the equation. Regardless of how you think Blu Ray video looks, there's no question that Blu Ray audio is far superior to DVD9. Sure you can upscale your DVD picture all day and night but you're not upscaling your sound.

Dark Knight on BluRay has lossless Dolby TrueHD sound. Nuff said.

That is ridiculous. Not only does turning up the brightness not improve the quality... it will actually decrease the quality, as it will give you false, overly bright, and "off" looking colors.... totally unnatural!

You can't even hope to accurately reproduce colors if you are going to crank the brightness!

Omeganemesis,
you are correct and as you I was not disagree that it was not a good movie it was a damn good movie, but they could of done better on the transfer itself. As for upping the brightness thats a joke among high def. enthusiest right now about the TDK transfer itself. Its better than dvd sure, but not as good as it gets. Blu ray transfers I dont know why have always been difficult look at fifth element (one of the first blu ray transfers) the studio even apologized for the bad transfer and re-released it again on the blu ray format and was greatly improved (even though consumers had to buy it again for a good transfer)

You know, the brightness argument aside, those 35mm scenes are pitiful. They are just SLIGHTLY better than the DVD one.

In my opinion, it's enough to warrant a recall, or at the very least, a re-release (That is, if they have a higher quality source for it. If not, the public is screwed, but it's still unacceptable)

you know in the end they will re-release TDK and call it, "The ultimate collectors edition TDK" special features:
-collectable limited batman figurine
-new sound 9.1 channel
-30mins unseen footage
-improved picture quality
da da da da.....

Omega,
watch the scene where joker comes into the bad guys meeting right where he puts the nail on the table, but before he nails the guys head onto it. In some scenes in the movie there is a, "HALO" effect this is caused by turning up your brightness on your tv screen. The director intentionally added in EEs and NRs to the movie thinking it would improve its PQ, but this was not the case.
watch some of these movies that the forum bases on PQ then come back and watch TDK and then you will be disappointed about the transfer especiallly since its a new movie with high end cameras in use for the movie.

Here are some common Terms and Descriptions:

(EE) Refers to Edge Enhancement. A digital image processing filter used by some studios to improves the apparent sharpness of the video. The creation of bright and dark highlights on either side of any line
leaves the line looking more contrasted from a distance. It actually makes the picture less detailed because fine details are covered by the resulting "halo" artifacts.
