32 bit vs 64 bit

Thread Starter
i recently found out that i can only take advantage of 4gb of memory in 64 bit windows xp. are there any real differences between the 2? as in, would i still be able to play all my games and run my same programs without a hitch?

I highly doubt you need 4 gb of ram for windows xp. Is there a specific reason you need more memory? I've yet to find any game that uses 2 gb of ram, so unless you're an encoder or do hardcore editing, it's stick with 32 bit and 2 gb of ram. Just my .02

I would stay away from 64 bit xp, if you want to move to a 64 bit OS go to Vista.

i do some digital recording and editing so it would help a little ha. so should i just order a 2 gig dual channel kit? right now i have a 4 gig dual channel kit. does it matter besides the extra ram not being recognized? i absolutely hate vista.

i have a 4 gig kit. im just not sure if having the extra there would slow performance compared to a 2 gig kit.

No. Correct me if i am wrong but there should be no reason why the extra unutilized RAM would slow performance. Your system would just not take full advantage of the ram that is available.

Depends on what you do, what programs you use. If you just game and thats all, memory isn't as big of an issue, in general. You're photoshopping, 3d work...can't have enough.
