An MMO built on the Dunia (FC2) Engine - Page 3

Dunia looked pretty bad lol that combined with crappy game = worst 50$ I've ever spent.
Sure it has vehicles, day/night, but a lot of other engines do also cryengine 2 does all that and more. I personally think dunia engine was a waste of time just a bland engine clusterf***ed with hdr and bloom. it ran well but it was dull in physics and everything else only thing it had going for it was fire propagation which can be added into probably any engine if the developer wanted to.

You guys must have been playing a different game or had settings turned way down, but the outdoor scenes in FC2 were pretty much eye candy. All the Dunia engine is, is an optimized version of the CryEngine...

Just because crysis has a lot of cheaters doesn't mean anything just as with CSS or any other source game.

Even if you didn't have to do a lot editing to a engine if a game developer did not have the skill to create a engine from scratch (not that they need to) they probably shouldn't attempt to make a MMO.

Creating a MMO with dunia would be possible. Just unlikely that anyone would. What i WOULD like to see is the singleplayer game of FC2 just multiplayer COOP

Thats not the point.

Source was developed with the mindset of people going into the engine and modifying it. Thats what makes it really hard to make an MMO on it. It would have to be stripped down completely.

CryEngine was also too - but to a certain extent of map making.

I agree. But I don't think the game itself really was able to push the limits of the engine. Let's hope further titles based off Dunia are able to take better advantage of its capabilities

Turn your graphics up?

And if that doesn't work. Check out the eye doctor.

Running @ 1680x1050, everything ultra high with 4xAA.

Crysis looks better. Alot better.

You guys are forgetting that the Unreal 3 engine supports dynamically loading areas enabling an effectively unlimited size of the "world", which is perfect for a MMO. It also can render about an order of magnitude more texture and polygon data than Source. If you took a scene from unreal 3 and tried to load it into Source, it would take several seconds per frame to render that scene on Source.

Unreal 3 would look great for an MMO

With the way graphics cards prices are scaling down, just about anyone would be able to play a 2009 MMO based on the unreal 3.

You can play unreal 3 on a 6800 GT, i've done it. You have to play at 1024x768 on low, but it still runs.

I'm still waiting on Huxley, which is based off the unreal 3 engine.
