Phenom IIs? - Page 3

Wait, they compete with i7 in everything? Sweet! AMD could be back in the game, but that would make them liars.
They said themselves(though for the life of me I can't find the article that was on here) that the II's were aimed directly at the yorkfields and that the AM3's were where they'd said to compete with i7's either way this sounds good for us consumers.

LOL, the difference in gaming is negligible since they really depend on the card these days people.

Not in everything. The i7 still smashes the Phenom II in things like encoding, so for general use their "aimed at yorkfield" still applies. In gaming though it is looking like the Phenom II is a serious threat to i7.

AMD is still going to be best bang for the $$$... and if they OC like the rumours say... even better... hiting 4ghz on air would be sweet... and even better you wouldnt need a new HSF or mounting system to get it running... just slap your AM3 onto your AM2+ config and voila... your rig is blazing fast again for mere 200-250$

CANT WAIT!!!!

Honestly, the i7's make up for a very small percentage of the CPU market right now. People really cannot afford them, and the price/performance is not very great.

Even if AMD is only competing with the yorkfields, i see no problem. If every average consumer decided to start buying quads, they would go for yorkfields/phenoms and not i7.

IMO performance crown means nothing. Look at ATi graphics right now.

Yes thats true, but at the same time its nothing new... AMD has always been a gamers choice, and intel video/audio/renderer's choice...
Seems like AMD has it's target buyers and is planing to stick with it...

My opinion is that Intels better performance in encoding/video/audio/rendering comes from the extended sets of SSE's and MMX', and rest of the cr@p

That's why I'm asking about the AM2 boards. I've wanted a new computer since early summer, kept putting it off trying to wait for better deals or whatever, then put another build together early fall, and now I've been having some problems trying to play games so I definitely need one soon, I was planning on right after Christmas ordering, kept being told that the Phenom IIs wouldn't be any improvement over the current Phenoms and that the C2s were much better and better value than the AMDs, so I was planning on that, decided to check anyway and saw some benchmarks not having it much worse than a c2 so I figured why not wait and see how they turn out. Guess I'll wait for the first Denebs see some benchmarks, then make my decision, if they're good I'll just get a AM2+ board now.

And what's PWM? Will the AM3s use less power or anything either?
Yay

If you go to the cpu-z records page, there are already some Phenom II's validations showing up!

They are showing up @4ghz+

Phenom II is a GIANT improvement over Phenom I, even if it is only half as good as I think it will be. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. From the way it is looking Deneb is going to spank Core 2 at gaming... we already are seeing benches and screenies, and they are looking very good.

If I was you I'd just order a 790GX board right now, then you can plug whatever you want into it.

Why, would the deals be better now than after Christmas/new years?

I'm not saying you have to, I was just saying if you felt like ordering a board right now it wouldn't hurt. As far as I know there aren't any special boards coming out atm for AM2+ phenoms, they are just using existing AM2+ boards with bios update.

You could even build your whole system right now and get a cheap azz AM2 dual core for like $30 to hold you off.
