It's actually 790FX-SB600 board... im soooooo happy... it's waiting for PII's then, no upgrade needed

@Ratface

Go buy a 790GX board mate, no better boards will come out till at least Q2 2009!!! Buy a 5000+ BE, and wait for Phenom II.... you'll be set....

Thats a good price for a 3.6ghz AMD CPU... i can definately see myself getting one of the X4 II 920's or 910's... bit more closer to my budget, altho if i find someone to buy the 940 for me in the US i could actually get it for as low as 20-30euros in exchange (sell my 9950 here, and get 940 in the US)...

That would be sweet!!!

Look at it this way. If you have the money and you are impatient then get the i7.
If you can wait for the new AM3 boards and the second Gen Phenom II,(APR 09)
Then you might save some money and get some really good numbers with the Phenom II
second gen.

Its that simple

Phenom II 945 With 1333 DDr3 and the 750 southbridge or higher will compete with the Nahelem.

I quote myself: "300 dollars? 300 dollars. 300 dollars?" Repeat for about a whole minute. Those things are cheap, but the i7 920 (The low end) is what, 250?

Question: Would the phenom 2's work in the board I have? I got it for a Phenom 9850/9950, but w/ Phenom 2's coming so soon, and me having a job, I could just pick up a new board by Jan. if the 750fx sb supports Athlon 64's and if this doesn't fully (Keyword: Fully) support Phenom 2's.

I buy whatever is the best bang for the buck, I don't care which is better. And I'm sorry but Intel is better, period right now, just like AMD was around the time of the Athlon XP/Pentium 4 battle until they got to the 3.0ghz P4's.

But I absolutely refuse to waste (And yes, I said waste) 1 grand of my hard earned money on a single CPU. I'm not rich over here.

Actually the i7 920 is also $300

Plus, the price posted above for a phenom II, is not a newegg price. Also take into account that it is a black edition chip. (Intel equivelents with unlocked multipliers can reach an upward of $800+) So we have yet to see how cheap the phenom's can really get. Plus you do not have to go and buy new ram+ mobo if you already have them. Whereas with the i7, you need expensive DDR3, and $250-$400 Motherboards.

Which is a more expensive upgrade now?

+1 here...

IF you already own 790FX(GX) mobo new Denebs will work perfectly with it, and you will have to upgrade only your CPU to get the extra performance, especially since DDR3, at the moment, just doesnt pay off its high price... and with i7 u have to go DDR3 way...

But if youre looking at a completely new PC build (because of the good 'ol sigle core PC ) not that much of a difference between i7 and PII build, altho there still is since you can go old 790FX/GX board, DDR2, PII vs new X58, DDR3, i7... i think we're looking at a price difference in the range of 100-150$ between the two builds...

And honestly if youre a gamer, and not using your PC to do some professional work, AMD is probably the better in price/performance ratio... better off in getting a kick ass GPU than wasting your money on i7 platform...

Thats what i think at least

Yep, absolutely right.

Starting from scratch a mobo+cpu+ram combo for i7 is around ~$600 retail AT THE CHEAPEST, CHEAPEST PARTS *Entry level i7,X58,3GB Cheapest DDR3*

To comparison the Mobo+cpu+ram combo for Phenom II is around ~$500 WITH QUALITY PARTS *Including Phenom 2 BLACK EDITION Quad Price posted above, which may not be the cheapest we see at release*

If you wanted to say cheapest for Phenom 2, you could go as low as ~$300-$350ish for mediocre and entry level Quad Phenom 2+parts.
