Phenom IIs? - Page 7

Even the 920 is a good OCer. Just keep it cool and no probs.

A Ph-II 920 CPU OCed to 3.6Ghz will last you a long time. At least until the end of 2010.

Actually one dude already OC'd Phenom II 940 to 4,1ghz with an SB600 mobo so im guessing it will be OK, thats why im not changing mine... yet!

Altho the dude with the 4.4ghz score is runing 790GX mobo, and he has SB750...

i think even 910 will be a decent CPU for low budget variant...
all the same chip as i can see...

All in all the Phenom II is turning out to be a great chip from AMD(price/performance wise) and i am sure once its released the i7's will drop in price as well, maybe not by a lot atleast a little.

But i also want to get the most performance out of my system so it'll last longer so then I'd want to wait for a AM3, I dunno. Hopefully if I choose to wait my computer will stop being fussy and let me play some games again in the meantime.
get the AM2. DDR3 will probably bring a 5% boost in speeds, but really...count 3 months from ANY date and there will be something new out that offers 5% in performance, usually more.

If you need the comp now, and these Phenom IIs are looking good, pull the trigger man!

i plan on throwing one of these babies down in a dfi 790fx

amd is back on track now that they cleaned out their employees (hector ruiz is cap'n of failboats). even if the phe2 doesnt perform clock to clock with a york, it will be close and is still a good buy if its cheaper.

It'll likely fill the nitch that i7 is leaving between the core2quad, and fill it well. I like both sides, so I hope amd starts putting up a good fight so we can get some good stuff going!!

and luckily, the i7 is somewhat of a waste! I mean, no one REALLY needs 8 cores on a computer.
anyways, I plan on waiting till the AM3 chips come out. hopefully, due to the lower wattage design, they may be able to clock a bit better. my plan is to drop one into a Biostar TA790GX3

Hopefully the Phenom II's aren't just high clocks, high cache, low price, worst reliability ever like almost all of their current "low budget" quads.

they're quads with hyper threading, so they make the OS see 8 cores, even if there is only 4 physical cores.
either way, it's overpriced to upgrade to it, and performance wise I don't really see the point.
