Considering I'm the Forum Director for Nvidia, I am quite familiar with their drivers. I was able to mod their driver subsets for quite some time as well.

The ATI drivers are neither better nor worse than Nvidia. I find the ATI drivers to be very stable but they can be a bugger to install properly.

The Nvidia drivers tend to install easily but give a higher frequency of issues in day to day use.
A reasonable observation that I concur with.

I call BS on the performance increases, unless we're talking about a very select few people who own a 4800 series card and actually get the 8.12's to install correctly...

I saw nothing but performance decreases in games and benchmarks, and AVIVO is next to useless. I had such high hopes for these...
