help me overclock it please

Thread Starter
hi everyone.... I think some of you must have noticed that I have been asking for how to overclock a CPU in the last few day, and I have just finished reading the manual of my Asus P5KPL-c/1600 motherboard which allow me to overclock the RAM to 1066 FSB, and as I am now on the Pentium 4 ( 3.40 GHz, 2 MB of L2 Cashe, and 800 MHz of FSB ) I want to overclock it, and in the manual I found some option refered to in the bios set up section which is as the following : (jumperFree configuration) when I hit the enter key on this option a sub-menu appears which is AI overclocking (set to AUTO), and DRAM frequency ( also set to AUTO ) & under those 2 options there are some other options appear too which are :

1.8 dual over voltage ( Auto )
1.5 over voltage ( Auto )
VTT CPU over voltage ( Auto )
1.25v over voltage ( Auto )

and here I saw that when I hit the AI overclocking I see three options : ( 1- MANUAL: allows you to individually set overclocking parameters, 2- Auto: loads the optima settings for the system, 3- overclock profile: loads overclocking profiles with optimal parameters for stability when overclocking

and on the other handwhen I choose the MANUAL selection, it give me a choice to gives me the choice to set the CPU frequency manually starting from 133 to 500 and in the manual some chart is written to floolow on order to get the best results which is as the following FSB:1600 = CPU external frequency : 400 MHz, FSB : 1333 = CPU external frequency: 333MHz , FSB: 1066 = CPU external frequency: 266 MHz , FSB: 800 = CPU external frequency: 200 MHz/.

and the last option is that when I choose the overclock profile Iget the following: to get it overclockedas 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 30%.

so can you tell me what to choose as am quite new to overclocking a CPU , and I don't know a thing about that , and when I read that in the manual , I thought that it would make the process more easy to me , so what do you say in that ??? can you kindly consider what I wrote above as written in the manual of the motherboard I have and just let me know what option to select and if in percentage , what is the best and the more stable one to choose do you think , and as it's the first time I will do it , then how ca I know whether it succeeded of failed? any clues will be useful, and any extra info and support will make me grateful to you, and if necessary to mention what the manual told about the DRAM frequency just tel me to post it here to help you help me , best regards

Mate, post the main window of cpuz on load and while idle. Also post memory, spd- windows of cpuz and also post a screenshot off real temp on load and while idle. Total, 6 screenshots.
Then I'll try my best to help.

well here you are, I posted the screen shots as I could understand what you want, and REMEMBER! please do your best and be sure about the info you will give me as this will be my first trial in overclocking a CPU.

Go to the BIOS and set PCI-E frequency to 100.00MHz and PCI clock to 33.00MHz. Now, look at the FSB. It should be set at 200.00MHz. Increase the FSB to 205MHz. You will notice that the memory speed will also increase. But, you cannot afford to increase the memory clock. Use memory dividers to keep the memory frequency at or under default value. Now reboot. Keep increasing the FSB[remember to keep the ram frequency under default value using dividers] until the system won't reboot or show malfunction. Then increase the vcore by one increment and see if it reboots properly. Go upto 220MHz FSB by this method. So that you will gain 220*17=3.7GHz.

Make sure that-
1. You know your motherboard.
2. You know about resetting the CMOS using jumpers.
3. You know your motherboard.
4. Do not pass 1.45volt vcore.

Ok, now, you have a decent overclock. Test its stability by running OCCT for 2 hours. If you pass it, then everything is alright. If it doesn't pass, increase the voltage by an increment or reduce the FSB by 3-4MHz. Do this until you pass the 2 hour OCCT CPU test. And during this time, make sure that you don't cross 65 degree Celsius core voltage. Use real temp to see your temperature. If it's higher than 65c, lower the vcore.

Hope that helps.

BTW, what divider options do you have?

first of all I really appreciate your taking the time to answer me , and now I should thank you, and here I will botehr you with another question I understood what you said but there are 2 things I couldn't figure them out, what's the divider and Vcore, and in what part of bios I can find them and how they are being referred to? if you can post some screen shots that practically explain what you ( as I am doing that for the first time, and I am really depending on you and the others in this forum )said I would be grateful to you.

It should be named as memory multiplier or divider. I don't know about asus boards. You will find them in advanced tab I think.

First of all, if you don't have an owners manual, download a copy from Asus.

Asus usually call the divider "LIMIT". Note though that what you set as the LIMIT is not the actual memory speed, it's a divider.

Vcore is CPU voltage.
Vdmm is memory voltage.

how do you assume that I haven't got a manual, I DO HAVE IT, and I have had an E book manual fome asus too anyway I got what you meant with saying I don't have a manual , well... I read it several times, abut as yo know.... reading is not every thing, I need to practice what I read, and here is the point, I really want to try that, eaven yesterday I flashed the bios of my mobo to the latest version offered at ASUS websites, since a newer version of bois might offer extra options for overclocking, and I want to ask you too, whether I will be able to do the overclocking depending on the stock CPU fan, and the stock heatsink too?? and also depending on a power suopply named DELUX and it's as teh following : ( dual-core power supply, intel ATX 12V V2.2 standard, S-SATA connectors, 120MM Silent fan, dual-core rail output, passive PFC, comprehensive circuit protection unit ) and the vendor told me that it's supposed to supply not less than 300 watts, though there is nothing written on it's package referring to such a thing.

so please tell me whether am able to depend on this power supply and the stock heatsink and CPU fan only tp proceed with overclocking ???

and as you already mentioned that if I want to start an automatic overclocking I can start with 5% , so how much do yo assume I will notice by going to 5%, and do I have to set anything else if I start with 5% or by proceeding with an auotomatic overclocking the motherboard will do the others thing as to suit the ram speed with the desired overclocking percentage choosen ???

best regards

and who told you even that I was bothered??? there is an Arabic proverb which says: am a slave to whom taught me even only an alphabetical letter. !!!!! so I only wanted to clarify the point, and I know he didn't mean that I haven't got a manual as a material, but I think he meant that I didn't read the manual, and that's why I wrote in capital letters the phrase I HAVE GOT A MANUAL and I really appreciate the effort he does to read and answer me , and I really thank him
