nice! maybe your ram needed to be in the other slots, I heard that in order for the tri chanel to work right it needed to.

double check to see if you have the order of boot sequence correct. I think it should boot straight into installation without you having to press anything. If it says "press any key" give a second to see if it starts up by itself.

Make sure that your hard drive is connected to power and the SATA.

bootmgr is part of the OS if I'm not mistaken.

Quote:
One day you turn on your Windows Vista PC, and it gives you the dreaded "BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" message, in menacing white font on black screen. So you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del only to get the same message again, and again, and again, in an infinite, terrible loop. You clutch your chest and rock back and forth and froth at the mouth for awhile.

Then you straighten up, take a deep breath, and grab the Vista installation DVD.

See, if your PC's boot disk got bumped out of wack, you can often fix it right back up using the original Vista installation disk, which comes with a pretty extensive System Recovery Tool that's got lots of options (see screengrab). Set your computer to boot from DVD (using the Boot setting in the BIOS), insert the disc and restart. Vista will prompt you for language and keyboard layout options, then ask if you want to reinstall Vista or repair your installation. You want Repair. From there Vista's System Recovery Tool will take over, and lead you down the road to happy vistages again.

If that fails? Try the free GParted CD. — Gina Trapani

Found the solution

Quote:
after my vista premium's initial "loading installation files" you are given a choice as to what partition/drive you want to install vista on. If there is any partition/drive above the partition/drive you want to use, then it will need to be disabled because vista is going to write bootmgr on the partion/drive thats on the top of the "where do you what to install" list.

I didn't mess with my bios (tyan s2865 tomcat motherboard amd939 pin) because it was correct from when i was running xp pro.... Even if it's not broke, you can certainly fix it until it is. If you're using a new motherboard, then yes, you will want to make sure bios boot priorty is correct.

For me to correct the problem, meant to unplug my 500gb hdd (sata) because it was above my raid 5 drives (3 120gb sata's). I waited until vista finished the windows updates (restart now), then i let it reboot, then shutdown & plugged in my 500gb hdd, no prob. Now, you see the bootsect.bak (and the time of day all your bootmgr troubles began) on your "other" hdd. Delete it.

Hope this helps.

It shouldn't be giving you this error if you are booting from the disc. However you might want to disconnect the drives you are not using so that you can narrow down the variables.
