well, I might just keep one 4870 and sell the other, two cards is great but I don't think I need both and don't want to fork out more money.

Does anyone want one of these? $155 plus shipping, that's all I paid.
Don't get down over the 8x.

That is 8x @ PCI-E 2.0 which has loads of bandwidth. For most people there is almost no difference from X48 to P45.

exactly the 2.0 makes up for the bandwidth. Penicilyn do you think my 600watt would cut it?

the p45 chipset is:

8x PCIe 2.0 + 8x PCIe 2.0

so its essentially 16x PCIe 1.1 + 16x PCIe 1.1

and from anything i've read, a 16x PCIe1.1 or 8x PCIe2.0 will not bottleneck any card, even a 4870x2, this will not be bottlenecked by the chipset.

i think the only difference you would feel is that any game you are running at ~45fps, you will run it at 60+.

its really just security for future games/ eyecandy for current games.

PS: to tell you the truth i never had only one 4870 so i can't say what difference i felt, but i really like where i'm at in terms of gaming horsepower.

but if you want to recover some $$ sell the other 4870, and then buy it back a year down the road from somewhere else for cheaper.

I think so, I've ran SLI 8800GTS's off this PSU, and also crossfired 3870's.

Over the break I'll crossfire my girlfriends 4830 with my 4850.

If I can do this on a 500watt, you should be able to with a 600watt. As long as it's a high efficiency.

that's probably what I am going to do, I don't think I need two 4870's now. I also don't want to go buy another psu if I don't need it, since I can't GET A STRaight answer about the psu problema.

thanks. sync

that's what I was thinking. It's rated at 80% efficiency I believe.

anyone want my "extra 4870" for $155 plus shipping to you?

Very tempting however it would be pointless for me as I'm only using a 19" monitor
