Ok, so a friend of mine recently asked me to combine a new rig togheter for him.

He's aimed for gaming and he dousn't use any cpu intensive programs (vid encodin tools, photoshop, ect)
His budget is aimed arround 1200€ and he dousn't mind adding in a few extra hundreds if the price is worth it.

He wants a rig that would last a couple of year tho.

I decided i'd give him a go with the following stuff:

- Gigabyte EP45-DS3 (119€)
This board has 2 pci-e 2.0 slots and is crossfire compatible incase he ever plans to add in another gpu.

- Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8400 (169€)
Since he's aimed for games I don't see much of a reason to recommand him a quad core setup.

- Sapphire HD4870 1024MB (299€)
Decent card for decent price. the X2 costs 450€ so its a little over the budget

- Corsair DIMM 4 GB DDR2-1066 Dominator EPP Kit (95€)
specs: CL5 5-5-15 2T. Don't see anything wrong with this

- Antec NeoPower 650 Power supply(109 €)
ATX 2.03, ATX12V 2.0, EPS

- Harddrive(s)
Still doubting what to get: info/suggestions would be much appreciated

- LG H22LS30 - Serial ATA/150 (25€)
Solid DVD rewriter/burner.

- Antec 900 (109€)
his choise

- True extreme 120 (49€)

He already has a 22" monitor & keyboard/mouse.

So yeah, what do you think, suggestions are welcome.
if you think i should add/replace any item, please include the price in $ so i can compare with the prices arround here.

And last, is it a good idea to recommand him a dual core cpu.
Seeing the c2d6600 is priced 179€ with is only a few bucks more.

Thanks in advance

Actually there are several ds3 variants, ds3r ds3l, and one which has only a single pci x16 slot, so be careful and double check what you say.

yeah, this case its just the ds3. and i'll make him aware of it.
But he's probably gonna print this out anyway. He might even order from the website I compiled this list even.

Seems pretty solid. Just gaming, so the 8400 is a great choice.

I like Corsair too, but its not the only PSU maker. Antec's a pretty valid manufacturer.

so any suggestions on a decent CPU cooler?
The case I advised him the antec 900 since alot of people seem to rate that case for its quality.

Updated PCU cooler & case. Also added Dvd drive

He decided to take an ASUS Silent knight 2 along with a antec 900 case.
I know the case is good, but what about the cooler?

Also, what HD should i get.

I was thinking about buying Samsung 200GB x2 and put them into raid, though ive never done this before so i don't really know how it works and all.

If you think there's a better way, then please suggest these.
The price dousn't really matter but i'd prefer to keep it below 200€ max.

For CPU Cooler, look into a Tuniq Tower, Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (TRUE), XIGMATEK HDT-S1283

For harddrives, looking into a RAID0 of 500GB drives. They are only a few dollars more than the smaller drives and definitely worth the price.
