[TS]FCC thinks WoW causes college drop-outs - Page 2

post #11 of 78
*insert controllable distraction here*- causes people to drop out

it can work for anything that you consciously chose to do instead of studying/assignments, WOW just happens to fall under that unbrella

correlation =/= causation

Sure it can be a factor, but to be honest it's just an escape in that case. Better than drinking or drugs tbh. (although yes, WoW is the only one of the 3 that leaves you a virgin

Although I'm against the whole idea that "video games cause *insert bad thing here*", I have to say this is partially true. Because everyone I know that plays WoW is partially addicted to it, some are fully addicted, playing all day.

This is not true for everyone of course, many people can easily control their WoW playing and/or they can manage school while playing WoW.

But an awful lot of people that play WoW play an awful lot, and put WoW as a priority before other important tasks. There is no denying that, everyone knows it. And everyone knows that WoW does this to people much more than any other game out there (although it does have more players than any other...).

no, its the drinking/drugs that causes most people to drop out. At least everyone I know of dropped out for those reasons.

One more reason I wont touch MMORPGs (that and paying monthly to play a game I've already bought is disgusting)

Someone just got OWNED by the new guy with 0 rep and no avatar. I completely agree, stupid people cause college dropouts, not wow. I'm playing wow and college and am doing just fine, not to mention working and other stuff. +rep

I feel that WoW might play a small factor in it, but by means does it cause students to drop out. Unless they are trying to go into professional gaming, which is another story there.

11 million people play WoW all over the world. I'm willing to assume a large chunk of those (in America) go to college. Of course a lot of people who drop out play WoW. I've noticed that a lot of people who drop out of college also drink soda... coincidence? I think not...

It's a student's choice, they are not forced by the game.

Crappy choice = idiot, so I guess there are a lot of idiots that choose to play games rather than live life.

No it doesn't it's called self-control. If you have any at all you can limit the time played in game. That way you don't fall behind in your studies.
