Xbox 360 just started freezing...

Thread Starter
It just started freezing when i was playing Gears of War 2 and the problem got worse when I restarted the console... I tried taking out the hard drive and now it works, but I'm also without my game data and profiles. Should I just go out and buy a new hard drive?

You should probably just go out and buy a PS3.

By sucking you mean they are reliable, quieter, play HD movies, have hundreds of games, free network, and don't RROD then yes they do suck. You know what I hate having a console that works. I want one that will cost me money to play games online and that I have to worry about it blowing up or scratching the crap out of my disks. Oh wait, on second thought... no I don't.

Yeah I would try a reformat or buy a new hard drive. This happened to my 360 too and I read somewhere that taking off the HDD would stop the freezing and sure enough it played smoothly once I did that. I went out and bought a new HDD and ever since then, no freezes.

Put the HDD in your PC, back up your game data, then wipe it, re-copy and hope the data isn't corrupted. If the data's fubar, then you'll have to wipe it again and start from scratch. I don't know fore sure if it's IDE or SATA, but I know it's one of them, so it will work and your BIOS will see it.

* If the problem does not occur when the Xbox Hard Drive is disconnected, try clearing the Xbox 360 Hard Drive cache. To clear the Xbox 360 Hard Drive cache, follow these steps:
1. Re-attach the Xbox Hard Drive.
2. Locate the System section of the Xbox 360 Dashboard.
3. Select Memory, select Hard Drive, and then press Y to view the device options screen.
4. On the Xbox 360 Controller, press the X button, press the X button again, press the left bumper, press the right bumper, press the X button, and then press the X button again.
5. You will be prompted to confirm system maintenance. Select Yes by pressing A.
* If this problem occurs when the Xbox Hard Drive is attached, and clearing the hard drive cache did not resolve the issue, create a new gamer profile, and then test to see whether the issue still occurs. If the issue does not occur when you use a new gamer profile, the issue may be related to the original gamer profile or saved game information for one or more games that are associated with the original gamer profile. To verify this, delete the saved games for all games that show this problem for the original gamer profile.
