If you look at the actual thing by Bit9 - it's worthless. It doesn't take into account the exposure time at all, which is the most important thing.

Now, I'm not sure how fast they released a patch for this, but on average, M$ are much, much slower with patches. Good on them they got a patch out on this one faster. That's a step in the right direction.

Stop using 'Oh, fanboys!' as an excuse when someone makes a valid argument.

A fanboy just supports something blindly - Someone who supports something due to actually having reasons to, is no fanboy.

This all said, I still don't say security is the reason not to use IE. The reason is that it cannot render webpages correctly. It cannot perform it's primary function correctly. For that reason, it is sub-standard software and should not be used. Not to mention the fact M$ don't implement new technologies well/at all, they held back stuff like AJAX, SVG, XML, XHTML, etc... - They are holding back the web.

Latty, you are by no means a fanboy of FF, you have your reasons and state them (not just "IE Sucks because FF is better", you have valid points).

A question though, you keep mentioning "IE can not render web pages correctly". What exactly do you mean? Am I missing out on something on the interwebz since I use IE? I use Opera USB @ work (they will not upgrade to IE7) and notice no difference in my "internet experience". Maybe it is just features I don't use?
As far as I know, the purpose of a web browser is to allow me to, well, browse the web, which IE does just fine for me (and 75% of the world).

You are making it more difficult to implement web pages, and to use CSS easily when making a webpage. Web Developers, especially, hate IE.

Yes, as a web developer I made a desktop web site. When I finished it, it was working perfectly under Opera and Firefox and Google Chrome. But not in IE. It took me hours to make it work good under IE7, and after that I found out that it' not OK under IE6 ...

At the end I happened to have written some workarounds especially for IE6, and another one especially for IE7.

So instead of focusing over the functionality, I was bound to making it compatible with IE, because it has the largest browser share. The more features you add to the web site, the more workaround/fixes you should do to make it work under IE. It's a law.

I've used FF, Chrome, Safari, IE7, and IE8. I still like IE much better. It loads pages the fastest, scrolls the fastest, supports all the buttons on my mouse, and properly supports the clipboard for copy & paste. The other browsers just don't do that.

You must have known that going in, so why not make it compatible with the most widely used browser from the get-go?
