Amiga 500

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga_500

A quick quote from Wiki:

"The Amiga 500 uses a Motorola 68000 microprocessor running at 7.15909 MHz in the NTSC version or 7.09379 MHz in the PAL version. While the 68000 is a 32-bit chip internally, it has a 16-bit data bus and 24-bit address bus, providing a maximum of 16 MB address space."

"The Chip RAM can be upgraded to 1 MB directly on the motherboard, provided a Fat Agnus chip is also installed to support it. In fact, all the custom chips can be upgraded to the ECS chipset. 512 KB of “Slow RAM” or “Trapdoor RAM” can be added via the trapdoor expansion. Such upgrades usually also included a battery-backed clock. If further expansion is desired, up to 8 MB of “Fast RAM” can be added via the side expansion slot. Hard drive and other peripherals can also be added via the side expansion slot."

First PC was an IBM 386 with DOS.

Second was a 486 running DOS then Windows 3.0.

Pretty crazy how some of you guys' computers were capable of running Halo and using NVIDIA hardware.

Mine wouldn't run any games unless it was on a 5 1/4 floppy.

First computer I ever used was somewhat of a legend.

Good ol' Apple II-E. My 1st grade teacher had one set up in the corner of the room. I think maybe it spawned my addiction to these things...

My first system was a custom build I did myself (age 23 or so, so 18 years ago).

386 DX40 (with math co-processor), 4 MB of RAM, 105 MB hard drive. 15" color monitor, dual floppies (3.5 and 5.25). Ran Dos and later windows. Even had a set of tin can speakers that connected to the onboard sound.

Had a 14'4 modem. I remember my first big upgrade, went to a 28'8 modem and add 4 more mb of ram. (cost me $300 total).

The next biggie was to go to a 486 DX2 66 Processor. I was in heaven (the chip was $450 at the time).

The first computer I had was an Apple ][+ with the massive 128k RAM and dual 5 1/4" drives. It was smokin'.

My first IBM-compatible was a 486SX-33 that I bought when I was in college. After about a year I swapped the chip out for a friend who needed an SX chip and had a DX-50 chip to swap. My first CPU upgrade! I still remember being terrified that I was going to pull one of the pins out trying to strip the solder off. Good times!

Hmmm, My first PC was an IBM XT clone (8mhz, 8088 CPU) with 128k of RAM and a full height 10MB Seagate HD. I bought it with a 12" monocrome amber monitor. Things get even funnier. My first ever computer was a Radio Shack Color Computer, purchased in 1981. It came with 16k of RAM (a 4k version was also available) and hooked up to your TV. It had a maximum resolution of 320x192 @ 4 colours. It used a portable cassette recorder to save/load programs at 512 baud. I eventually got a 9 pin dot matrix printer for it and a 5 1/4" floppy drive which could write up to 160k per disk. Man, how far we've come.

Regards,
Mark
