SLOW Raid5 setup

Thread Starter
Ok, I just put in a brand new Raid5 setup using 3x 320GB drives (64k setup).

It is installed in my sig rig below.

Anyway, my problem is that the write and the transfer speeds are low, very low.

To do a mega test for something, I grabbed a 7GB file I have on my computer and (from a brand new hitachi 1TB drive), dragged it to my desktop. It starts out ok at 70mb/s, but then plummets slowly to 9.8mb/s which is extremely sub par.

The transfer speeds from the raid array to the same drive start at 100mb/s and then plummet yet again to about that same low rate.

Currently from the nvidia control panel, I'm running a test and and a sync on my drives in the hope that it is the key to my performance downfall.

I am stumped as people told me (not on OCN) that when they tried Raid5 on their machines, it worked perfectly fast and I am not sure why it isn't working for me.

Am I doing something wrong? This is my first raid anything and right now, my results are quite low.

I have the same problem transfering files myself. Are you using an external USB to upload to your RAID-5?
