Vista 32 Vs Vista 64 - Page 2

The so-called "pain" is limited to driver availability for older hardware, from my experience. I have one component for which there is no Vista 64 driver, an old Epson scanner that has got to be 7-8 years old by now. Epson released a 32-bit Vista driver, but no 64-bit driver. I'm obviously peeved that my scanner is now a doorstop because Epson won't tweak and/or recompile the driver for 64-bit; but then again, it is an ancient piece of hardware.

I have yet to try a standard program that does not work just fine in Vista 64.

Ah yes. I do recall when I first used an early Beta of Vista having H/W driver issues. I guess none of my current hardware is old enough to need a vista driver. I am building a system for a friend with Vista premium and he needs *gasp* a modem - had to look thru several to find one that actually stated it supported vista.

64 bit isnt bad, there are a few obscure things that wont have drivers but NOTHING mainstream doesnt have drivers for it now. Also Im guessing within the next year or 2 8Gb of ram will become a standard.

Vista 64bit is good, i haven't had any issues yet. And getting 64bit just for the ram isn't the only reason. If you have a 64bit processor (core 2 duo or quad) why not. Why make a processor that is built for 64bit run on 32bit? 64 bit Vista hands down.

Go for Vista x64 and buy a 2*2Gb set of ram and your good to go.2*2Gb sets of 1066 are really cheap and 800 is even cheaper so there really is no excuse not to get it.Vista x64 will work fine with most everything out now.

I had 32 went 64. Love the upgrade. seems like a no brainer to me unless your trying to use really old hardware and apps. In that case just make sure there are drivers available for anything you cant live without.
