E7300 on EP45DS3R, Hard time reaching 3.6

Thread Starter
Hi,
well i dont know where to start.
specs
E7300
4870X2
Enermax 625+ modu82
Ep45-DS3r
Corsair xms 2 dhx 2*2GB (certified 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1 @ 800mhz
Zalman 8700.
im definitely missing something.
For now im stable @ 3.5 ghz(350*2), 5-5-5-18 memory @ auto (tried 2.1 as well) 700mhz
all the basic stuff for overclock are done.
EIST,C1E,performance enhance and so on.
tried bumping VTT to 1.32, no go, PLL 1.5,auto, no go, reference 0.8++ no go.

mch core is 1.26.
mch latch is 400
pci is 100
and my Vcore is 1.344 in windows( 1.3875 @ bios)
what seems to be weird is the vcore, while im idle, it is 1.36, @ load it drops to 1.344, seems not logical, maybe it's trying to say it doesnt need that much voltage.
well when im trying to reach 3.6 it fails in LinX after 4 minutes, and orthos after an hour.
some 1 can see the cause of this? i should reach 3.6 with ease!!
temp are fine, maybe im screwing up with the skew clocks(mch 50, Cpu 200, or the opposite, dont remember).

any help will be appreciated,
Dan

Hey Dan, welcome. I'm on the same mobo, but with the e5200 CPU and I'm capped at around the same clock speed for those voltages. What I've seen is that increasing the PLL voltage from say 1.45V to 1.7V allows me to go from 3.3 stable to around 3.7GHz for a 1.3625 Vcore set in the BIOS and 1.3VTT, 0.76 termination voltage.

As for the Vcore readings, I set 1.3625, get 1.344 idle in windows and drops to 1.311V on load... the Vdroop is quite important and there is no way I know of to disable it.

For your setup I suggest upping the PLL voltage. I'm not sure what would be a safe limit for 24/7 usage, the 1.7V I've used seem a bit too much for anything other than testing purposes.

Thank You for the reply.
seems pretty odd, cause when You set PLL to auto, it is over voltage already(recommended to set it on 1.56\\1.5) If I'm not mistaken, and what You've said makes me think if i put it high as it is, and not on auto, will it make any difference, i guess i should try, I'll first get a list of suggestion and try them all.
I see people reach 3.6ghz+ with ease on Asus mobos, weird.
and my friend had E5200@4.14 ghz on 1.5+vcore lol XDD(notice the HAD).
so at least i know now that vcore drop @ load is normal.
BTW do you have in bios CPU Reference 2 voltage, I've seen a picture of the same mobo with this option, i have only CPU Reference, without the 2.
so 1 suggestion added.
Thank you,
Dan.

hi there Dweirdo

seem like we have the same chipset, just wondering what type of test did you run with prime/orthos, smalfft or blend? i would suggest to test your cpu by running smallfft first to see if it has enough vcore or VTT, keep your ram at 1:1 that is 800 4-4-4-12 2.1v.... if 1.38v bios and 1.34v load means vdroop, thats actually normal u can set up 1.36v at load (around 1.39 - 1.4 bios), for reference, mine needs 1.26vcore, 1.2vtt (stock) 1.2vMCH for 3.8 (8.5x448), i think P45 is very friendly with MCH voltage.. other than that, maybe u need more vcore to reach 3.6,.. each chip is different

happy overclocking

Hi flow,
I ran orthos smallffts, Blend is more ram related if I'm not mistaken.
and Linx(which I find much easier and faster, u could know if you're stable in about 6 minutes, though temperatures will go pretty high.)
1.36 to get 3.6? that sux so much! :<
ill try 8.5 multi as u do, 1.4vcore, 1.2vtt(it was on 1.3 XD) 1.2vmch(,although I'm on 1.26,*** DUDE U RUN 8GB ON 1.2VMCH!! ***?!!! THATS AMAZING!! USUALLY U NEED 1.26+!)
yeah i keep my ram at 1:1, but it is underclocked atm, 700 mhz, on 5-5-5-18 1.8v, i'll try 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v as well(maybe that will increase my 15 fps on GTA IV lol).
"mine needs 1.26vcore" omg :<
Definitely doing some thing wrong here <<<-----
either my RAM is faulty(will run memtest) or my cpu is faulty(i hope not).
Thank you for your advices, will try them and post again.
BTW, did u touch ICH CORE? maybe im missing something beyond the M.I.T section,do u have something so called virtualization Technology? arghh, what's ur bios version? I'm so pissed :<
anyways will update soon.
Cheers,
Dan.

i just got lucky with this chip i ordered online and came without box, was my fault i didnt check it that it was tray cpu, hmmh, wonder why so cheap

i always disable virualization and other cpu option, except for No-Execute Memory Protect (dont even know what it is lol) and i never touch ICH voltage, anyway.. got a screenshot from my initial overclock including easytune

thx

That's a hell good OC , i wish i could have it, ill try the exact settings u use, just with more vcore.
How the hack do u have Viertualization tech? I mean I've seen ppl have it, but not me!!! do you really have this option in Ur bios? if u do, my pc is fuc*ed up and i want my money back:swearing: lol XDD
I cant find this option, maybe my cpu doesn't support it?

thank you for your time,
Dan.

OK, This is just being weird.
just changed every setting i have as u showed in ET6, and im still on 3.5 checking stability to be 100% sure i can go on.
now the thing is that u made my pc FLY(Awesome!!!) its the first time i feel my pc at least in his half potential! and how the fuc* did you decrease my temps by 7 degrees!!!!?!!@$
so awesome!!
temp better and better performance(gta IV runs +7FPS!!)
hope stability is fine, so i go on to 3.6.
thank you again flow!!
i will post back,
Dan.
P.S
sorry for cursing a lot, im just hack excited.

... have no clue why ur pc now fly maybe something to do wit cursing alot .. congrats friend , 3.6 is awsome spot and i think 1.45v is the absolute max for 45nm, but i believe urs will do 3.6 under 1.4v

happy tweaking
flo

EDIT: better temps? did u lower ur vcore?, but regardless, 7c lower is awsome
