Cable Splitters

Thread Starter
Hello OCN, I have 2 TV's. One is in the guest room and one is in my bedroom. I don't have a cable outlet in my room but the guest room does. If I were to buy a cable splitter could I connect the 2 cables and lead one to the guest room TV and one to my bedroom?

Also, would it be possible to have a link of some reliable cable splitters? (If the idea is valid)

Yes, provided you have a strong enough signal to begin with.

That one posted is very low bandwidth and cheap. Find a brand like Regal.

You want something that goes farther than 900Mhz for bandwidth. Also watch the gain drop on the outputs. They normally drop 3.5dB per outlet but some are 7dB. Try to find the lowest drop.

Basically, what people are tell you, is the buy a quality splitter. Theoretically, you can split the signal an infinite number of times, but in reality, you lose signal as you cables get longer, and every time you split the signal loses strength. The weaker the signal, the worse the quality.

There are ways to amplify the signal, but for your application, this is not yet needed, provided you use a decent splitter and the lowest length cable possible.

The splitter listed will work, but if you want a clearer overall picture/sound, get a higher quality splitter.

The idea is perfectly sound.

Hmm would this be considered a high quality splitter?

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...28&catid=11349

Btw, how far are we talking about if you don't want to lose any picture/sound quality? (Btw, I need around 5m)

That's overpriced for no reason except a brand.

You are in Canada right? What cable company do you have? Call 'em. I called Rogers and asked for several splitters. A tech stopped by the house and gave me about 4 4-way splitters.

5m is nothing, but just make sure you don't use something from the Dollar Store.

Yes I am from Canada and I also use rogers. I only need a 2-way splitter. Is there a recommended cable that you would say to buy? And btw were the splitters that rogers gave you good for quality?

Cable itself? Again call Rogers, if you have their VIP package you are allowed to have up to 6? or 9? outlets. They will literally stop by with extra cable and splitters.

Don't use anything less than RG6 for cable. Splitters keep the bandwidth around 1Ghz to 2Ghz.
