Odd.. Longer tubing brings my temps down.

I'm a little confused/interested in why my water cooling has lower temperatures when my tubing is longer? I first built a loop just for my CPU, I left a lot of extra tubing so it wouldn't kink on bends and such. I've since added a couple of elbows and shortened the length of the tubing so I could get minimal length in each connection, and my temps rose 2C* idle and when running core damage or vantage/3dm6 it rose 6C*.

I have a seperate loop just for my GX2's and my chipset. I had extra for those as well to avoid kinks in tubing, I removed for a few elbows and removed a lot of length I'd had in the tubing my GPU's went up 4C* idle all four of them and while gaming in quad sli each core was up 6-9C* higher. I didn't check the chipset temp's.

I removed the tidier setups and installed my older hoses and everything went back to normal temperature wise. My elbows were the correct size I saw nothing hindering the flow yet my temps were greatly impacted.

That isn't normal is it? Or could the extra cooling water/anti-freeze be helping somehow?

the more elbows you have add restricion which in turn will make the system less efficient. thus increasing temps

So I guess there's a sacrifice for being pretty, I'll stick with the longer tubes they look cool anyway I guess.

Yea, elbows and other fittings are a lot more restrictive than just more tubing.

General rule of thumb

1 elbow = 4 feet of restriction.

Martins liquid lab tested this.

Same here

Barbs, bending, and clamping hoses down are the best way to avoid restriction. Elbows are not!

OP just proved the world.

Just as bad.

Its introducing a wall that the water hits, essentially. The idea behind bending tubing is the water makes smooth transitions. elbows of any degree greater than about 30* will introduce large restriction.
