Considering purchasing Red Alert 3

Few questions (for those of you who have it)

Is the online multiplayer very active/populated?
How is the online matchmaking?
Are there any team-based tournaments or leagues that support RA3?

and finally... Is it actually fun? Does strategy really come into play? Or is it just whoever has the biggest army automatically wins?

thanks! +rep for helpful responses!

*EDIT* I'm talking about the PC version

Yes, the online multiplayer is very populated, but since there are many different online lobby's you'll only see 5-10 games per lobby. It's a minor annoyance, but with more than 30 rooms there's always someone to play with.

The matchmaking I have yet to try out. I know that in the beta It was very speedy, but since I've been having fun playing with friends so I haven't decided to play ranked yet.

And most importantly, it is very fun Strategy is VERY important, with things such as your scouting ability making/breaking a game, not balls out fights to the death in the middle of the map.

You build order and unit productions choices are INSANELY important if you plan on coming out on top in multiplayer matches, so you'll have to get to know the game fully before you can master it.

If that still hasn't made you want to buy the game, just think about the poster of 10 hott ass girls that comes inside the game case =]

Not to hijack the thread here, but how does it compare to C&C3? I didn't really like that one much (Age of Empires III is my cake), but if RA3 is different I might give it a try.

i personally think it sucks compared to C&C3 - i don't like what they did with the story and the grahics.

I loved it. Especially because I was a hardcore RA2 fan. AI is smarter than normal and gameplay is fun. And some strategy skills are required.

Here's my take on it:
The multiplayer currently undeniably lacks balance as with all RTS games so soon after their initial release.
The singleplayer campaign is extremely poor. The acting is half arsed, the missions are just a question of massing one particular unit etc.
As someone who has finished the singleplayer campaign, and played the multiplayer I'll tell you right now that this game is not worth it unless you're a die hard fan of the franchise.

I own a copy for both of my PC's......... personally it is a very fun game and very enjoyable. Online play seems to be average... have not seen tournaments though. And as for strategy it def. does matter (in multiplayer and against Hard CPU at least), but I don't think it is the deepest game out there for sure and of the factions (Empire of the Rising Sun) has an obvious weakness against air units, esp. early on in the game. Hope that helps.

[edit] As for the acting (the guy above me mentioned this) I think it is spot on with what the series is supposed to be. It is NOT supposed to be serious acting, but just fun over the top stuff...

thanks for input guys.

I think i'm gonna go back to CoH for a little while since I actually got fairly good at that game (probably the only RTS I am decent at).

If I get bored of that I will reconsider.

In my opinion Company of Heroes was def. a better game in terms of a serious campaign and def. in the strategy portion.
