3.3 GHz E6320 equivalent?

Thread Starter
So is my E6320 the same chip as the E6850 (besides the multiplier)?

That is, when my chip clocks at 3.0 GHz like the E6850 are they equivalent?

Yep. Your system is actually a little faster because you are operating on a higher FSB.

no there is a small difference but i wanna say its not big, i think its like level 2 cache is different between the chips, but i doubt it would make much of an impact

No, they both have 4mb of L2 cache; when both are at 3GHz, they are the same exact chip. I noticed that you have 3.3GHz with only 1.34v! You could get at least 3.6GHz with this chip if you upgrade the cooling!

They both have the same cache. Its the E6300 that has 1/2 the cache.

The E6320 at 3.3GHz is actually faster then a stock E6850, and here is why:
At 3.3 GHz, the E6320 is running at 3.3GHz and has a FSB rating of 1885. The E6850 runs at 3.0GHz and has a FSB rating of 1333.

They have the same cache E6300 has 2MB but E6320 has 4MB. Also @ 3.0GHz The E6320 will be a bit faster because 429*7=3.0ghz whixh makes it a 429*4 = 1714FSB vs 1333FSB of E6850.

Yeah... the heat is keeping me down. The Intel spec says 60C is max.

My next build was going to be an i7 system, but I can't justify spending 20-50 on a new cooler when I would be buying a new cooler anyway soon.

And my board may not be able to hit 510+ FSB.

Thats were the E6850 wins out, the temp threshold is higher at 72°C.

Well, you can get a heatsink that is compatible with both LGA775&1336. I think that you can get a T.R.U.E, and it will be compatible with both with a special mounting kit.

If you weren't upgrading, then I would recommend the EP45-UD3P.

Here are some links for the TRUE...
Heatsink: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/56...?tl=g40c14s757
LGA1336 Adapter: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/84...?tl=g40c14s757

If you upgrade your cooling, then it will probably hold you over until your Core i7 build.
