Computer Simply Will Not Fire Up. Please Help.

Thread Starter
I've posted about this before here on OCN. I proceded to do the suggestions provided by a few of the members and I still have the same issues.

My PC will not start up. And i'm out of ideas as to what is causing it.

There no post, no fans, no life- silence

This is what ive done so far:

- Took the components out of my case and set up a test bench. using only the basics, mobo cpu, graphics ram psu and hd

This yeilded nothing, there was still no life in it.

- I tried my old processor instead of my q6600 which worked before i condemned it to my ancient pc arts box. i used a pentium D 2.8

Still nothing.

-On my old PC setup, I had shorted my graphics card when fitting a back plate, which tripped the pc off, and this kept it from functioning for a good hour. But after that it worked, and continued to use the graphics card for months afterwards. I figured it was just temporary and nothing to worry about. Incidentally, this old motherboard died in a similar fashion... I tranfered this old graphics card into my new mobo, along with my other components.

Could the "faulty" (no way to test it) graphics card be a trigger for messing up a motherboard?

- because i assumed the old motherboard had just failed and i binned it, I sent the new motherboard back to retailer. The new mother functioned for a week before this failure happened.
This retailer was OverclockersUK - they sent it back with a note saying The motherboard works fine, please check your other components for faults...
The green light comes on suggesting its getting power...

- I replaced my PSU with a more powerful 600w modular.

- Bought an Asus P5Q pro to replace what i thought was a faulty motherboard (before i sent it back to Overclockers) and this didnt work at all - in the same way the Asus P5Q didnt work, and I connected up the old graphics card too. As months had past, I then remembered what had happend when i was fitting the backplate, and wondered if this might be the cause of this lack of life from the PC at all. Id tried two motherboards, two processor but only one graphics card.
I assumed it must be the Graphics Card.
- Recently bought a an Asus 4850 which set me back, in case it was the graphics card
I recieved a refund from Ebuyer for the board, saying it was a part id ordered in error. And they were brilliant - even though i have a suspicion i may have destroyed the board... but this is what i want to find out.

Overclockers on the other hand said my board was just fine... I believed them and thought they were reputable.

I read a few review sites just recently and i was slack jawed. Great if you give them money for their products, but send it back for repairs and theyll say theres nothing wrong with it. so im not so sure anymore.

I wont be using OverclockerUK again! Anyway sorry for the rant.

Ive replaced everything in the PC but the CPU and tried my spare, the only weak links is the motherboard, could overclockersUK have been lying about the RMA? Or the CPU?

Ive been building PCs for years and everything is set up correctly

My pockets are getting a bit bare

Thanks in advance.

Sorry about the length

This is weird... Im having a hard time gathering something other than a deffective part or just straight up incompatibility problems...

Give some details regarding the RAM?

Hi mate, nice name BTW

The ram is Corsair XMS2 800mhz

Ive kept it in a static bag while i was getting money to build this thing...
could this also be an issue? if one stick was defective would it not fire up or could all four sticks get blown?

hmm, they are two different sizes (512 and 1 gig paired 4 sticks int total) but the same CAS latency, never had any issues using it for months.

hmm

I ,ll add, the death of my baby was gradual, it was working fine for a week, moved into my new flat, set it up, stared at for a few minute (its sexy) turned it on (not like that) and turned on it did , thw windows loading screen came up fine, and then it just froze, a simple crash i thought, so i reset it and nothig was posted, blank screen (no picture), so i rset the BIOS and hoped for joy, but the screen was still blank. When i tryied again, it wouldnt even fire up... that how its stayed,, even with all the new parts, testing, RMAs. I didnt think about the RAM cos its always been safe in a bag...

Check the clear CMOS settings. I cleared mine and left the jumper in that setting, created the same result.

unplug everything from your computer internals except your cpu fan, your motherboard and your video card and see if it will turn on. Also you should try running with one stick of ram. Check the state of your clear cmos jumper as rookie stated, that will cause a no start condition. Being that you replaced every major component short of the cpu and ram I would think the ram is the most likely culprit here but its hard to say.
yeah, but the ram shouldn't cause the no power issue. I know cuz I had one dead stick just last week and the system powered but didn't make post.

Im thinking more along the lines of a bad ram slot, and not a bad ram module.
So you have replaced the PSU amd Motherboard and still nothing?

Is anything else plugged in to the socket or surge protecter....and if so do those things power on?

If not it could either be the surge protector or maybe the circuit breaker shut off the outlet.
