What to do?

Hey all,

I'm ordering my i7 965. Should I just use the stock cooler or should I buy an after market cooler? If I go with the stock cooler first how much of a pain would it be to take it off and remove the past and prep it for an after market cooler like the TRUE 1366?

THX

well you would had to remove the motherboard and therfore unplog everything if you use the thermalright bolt-thru kit. But uyou should defenetely get an aftermarket cooler for this beast!! overclock the hell out of it and good luck

Thanks for the response guys. But i'm still wondering bout trying out the stock cooler without putting the board in a case yet. I was planning on just getting all the components first while having everything on my desk to make sure there is no issues. Say if i put the stock heatsink on with its already applied paste how much of a hassle will it be to get the paste off the cpu and remove the pushpins?

THX

Also what kind of temps drops would you guys expect from the i7 965 stock heat sink vs the new true 1366?

it won't be to much of a trubble, just clean off the cpu with alcool. Don't forget to buy new thermal paste however. As for stock vs true, well i have seen a lot of improvements in temperatures. For example, an e8400 with stock cooler overclocks to about 3,6 and with a true it can get a little over 4 GHz. If you don't plan on overclocking there's no point of getting another coller however. Hope this helps
