Super bargain $250 beginner build - Page 2

I know AMD's are cheaper, but I dunno, I'll try Intel OC'ing first. Everything I've read, and it's prolly only .01% of whats out there for OC'ing, points towards Intels being the better OC'er in terms of ease, temp, stability, and hz for hz performance. I could be wrong, but I've seen that being the trend.

**** double post, sry for the n00b mistake. dunno how you guys take them here but usually people get scalded for them so I'll apologize in advance lol.

You might even save enough to get a better graphics card if you go AMD

Of course, going intel is fine too , albeit more expensive
Intels are just easy to overclock. AMD is going to go different route. Thier overclocking will be different next year. It will be like sitting in a software package going 2 ghz 2 ghz 2 ghz then bam 3.8 ghz. The speed scaling thing just seems to be going really nicely for them in the labs. I'm looking for the link to it but it's kind of funny to watch because its so different than what everyone is used to when overclocking.

dude. how much is shipping for that case? If you have a micro center in the area, they have the Antec 300 on sale for $39.99 and it is an awesome case for that price.

This is just my first step into OC'ing, so my next step may be to AMD, I will start with Intel, and based on my experience decide where to go.

I decided to just spend the extra $10 up front on the xiggy s1283, since after mail in (if they honor it lol) it will be the same price, and it's performance is superior no doubt.

I purposesly left out a GPU because including one would only make me compensate everything else, to keep it under $300 even. I'd rather wait 3 months for the HD 4870 or hell even the 280 to come down in price and buy a really good GPU then, instead of buying a gpu that may only be marginally better right now.

noahmateen1234 - Wow, thanks for reccomending that! I will call my local micro center(which I did not know existed until you brough it up lol) in Philly, which is like 3 miles outta the way on my way home from work, tomarrow and see if they have the three hundred in stock. The 300 is a kick ass bargain case IMO, and apparently alot of other peoples minds too lol.
-Total drops to $240 without case, and shipping loses like $10 lol. cool

Thanks for the input sofar thos guys, i'm glad I finally bit the bullet and registered on an OC'ing website for input lol.

That's a good idea, however its actually $54 before the rebate, and it would be the only thing I'd order from tiger (unless I shifted my entire order over there...) and rebates are usually something you forget to mail in anyways, so thanks for the offer but I'll stick to the g.skill on newegg.

I guess but I think now for corsair you can pay 3 bucks and they ship your rebate back in a week instead of 2 months so just saying.

Hmm, I will look into it, thanks for pointing that out.

Question about the Antec three hundred case, and buying an "open-box" Mobo on newegg -

Since I will be buying an open-box mobo, I realize it won't come with any cables. However I will have all the old cables from my current dell 8400, leaving only the power/reset/usb/audio buttons on the front of the case I will buy to question. I'm assuming it will, but does the antec three hundred have all the connecting cables so I can power up the mobo and use the usb/audio ports on the front of it?

And While I'm at it, I'm pretty sure this answer is a no brainer, but i figured I'd ask it -
The 6800 ultra gpu I have is currently docked in a PCI express X16 slot, will it work in the PCI express 2.0 X16 slot on the p5q? sorry if it's a dumb question, just figured I'd throw it out there so I don't make a dumb mistake

Thanks

Yes the 300 will come with the audio cables for the front ports(it should be built into the case)
The 6800 will work fine =)
