What TV should I get!? - Page 4

Toshiba Regza, is definitely the best choice on your list there. but if you want better prices, im sure Sharp is cheaper and just as good. considering i have a 37" sharp 1080p i got last year for @1100 CAN

Plasma get Panasonic for price/performance but if you make another 5 grand i reccomend a pioneer plasma.

EDIT: since i saw some people posting 120hz tv's psh thats for noobs...
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665532061 240hz ftw??

sony is def the best when it comes to lcd.

My information is out of date. I was under the impression plasmas had burn in issues. This was only a problem with the initial wave of plasmas. See below post

If they did, I recommend plasma, as this is the only reason I wouldn't get one.
fixed that long ago my freind.

Thread Starter
Well I have a lot of time to ponder, I was just getting some ideas.

So far my top 4 choices are:

Sceptre 46" cause its cheap

Samsung 46" cause its samsung lol

Samsung ToC 46"

Sharp Aquos 46"

Ok, well I will say go with the Regza, I absolutely love mine and have never looked back, compared to all other brands in its size/class it blew them out the water, funny thing is I have a 720P and it looked better than the 1080p units that were on display side by side with it.

the one thing I found out to is that if you're going with 120hz, you wanna go with Toshiba, apparently, Samsungs, Sony's etc just interject a black frame every other frame hence why it looks like you're watching the movie/show being played back at 1.5 speed, Toshiba's image processor actually interpolate's an additional "mid frame" that makes for a much easier on the eye's 120Hz display, I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it side by side on a 60" Regza and 60" Samsung the difference it makes.

Also the only advantage to 120Hz is that it eliminates the need for 3:2 Pulldown for 24fps material i.e. every single bd/hd dvd made. You tend to not see as big a difference in 30fpsand 60fps content.

Not saying its not a great thing but your mileage vary's with source content and image processing when it comes to 120Hz

The Aquos wouldn't be bad, as the Aquos line is usually indicative of some good sets.

The Sceptre you listed earlier would not be a bad tv either. My last LCD TV was a Sceptre. They have decent color levels, but the blacks are pretty terrible, and you really want as close to a deep dark black level as you can get. A high contrast ratio is always nice too!

Definitely go to a local store and check out some of these tvs on display and see what you would like. Look at the different sizes to see what would be right for your room. Look at the differences between Plasmas and LCD's. Most stores have the tv's in a dark area, which will be similar to where you place your tv and should give you a decent frame of reference. Watch closely as you compare standard 60hz and the newer 120hz screens.

Also, from my experience, the salespeople don't know a lot about anything, so don't trust them, trust your eyes.
That is so true. I've only seen them in Best Buy and the motion is kinda creepy looking.

I picked up a very nice Sharp 52" (Specs)

Got a great deal on Black Friday, first LCD listed here:

I would definitely recommend it, I'm sure you can find it on sale somewhere.
