Sorry, you just broke one of the obscure tech commandments.

Fast, Reliable, Cheap. Pick two

I'm not sure that computer tuner cards can do encrypted Digital signals, at least not yet in Australia. The Asus ones are quite nice, but the software sucks.

i plan on using the media centre software with vista ultimate. Reliable and cheap are the two i need. I dont need encrypted. my sat rx'r takes care of the decrypting and carries signal via analog chnl 60 over coax.

Ahk. Wasn't sure how you were gonna do that.

In that case, anything by Realtek or Asus I spose. Hauppage are good, but expensive.

if you are pulling it off a sat box, then any card with an input matching your sat box's output will do. component in or even hdmi would be nice but it seems like svideo is still about the best input you can find on a tv tuner card.

i like the hauppage stuff, but am running their older cards so i dont know how any of their new stuff is. remember to get one with dual tuners is you want to watch/record different channels at the same time. i did have a hauppage 1600 at one time and it worked well.

This asus card gets the best reviews on newegg and on other websites. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815293003 (It also comes in PCI-e 1x). I'll probably get one for christmas so I'll be sure to post a review around that time.

Hey, are you wanting external or internal one?

if external, I can tell you that I just purchased the Kworld UB435-Q USB.

Super easy to install and picked up all my local HD stations around town. There is no remote with it, but there is another model on newegg that has it for about $50.00.

The one I got, you can purchase on newegg for 29.00 w/ free shipping. It even got TIVO like to where you can record you movies. I just got done watching Dallas whoopin the Giants.

I got external due to using it for both my desktop and laptop.
