Tried the latest service pack?

And if you have, have you tried running it on Vista/Server 2008?

Try updating your BIOS if possible.
Try reseating your heatsink. Worth a try right? A member here had a quad that only showed two cores. After he reseated it, it showed four again.

check this procedure out and see if you've followed the same steps. Which OS is it? It has to be XP Professional or above. If it's XP Home it won't have SMP capabilities.

I completely forgot about that. XP Home will only use one core no matter what.

Yeah, Vista supports multiple cores in all its versions. Should be fine. Don't forget to go 64-bit.

If the cores aren't showing up its probably pre service pack 2, you need sp2 installed to make use of multi core cpus in XP/

I know exactly what's wrong!

I had this problem only recently. You'll have to go into the BIOS and enable APIC, it's under the advanced CPU options. You'll have to re-install your OS for the change to take effect!
