. I do agree that I need to get some stuff purchased. Carpe diem. I am just the most frugal shopper you will ever meet and always get worried. Not to mention the fact that I just got done with final today and did well I may add. Anyway, my parents have sticker shock with the painting project (and my current financial situation is crap) so I will definitely have to do this project in sections. I am now planning to get the holes for cable management cut by a friend in the next week or so (whenever he can do it for me). I am also going to paint the interior with this base coat that Lambent suggested using if I don't want clear coat to save some money. If I can, I will purchase it at a local store, but I'll have to call around first. Now I finally have the time to do all this. I'll clip some stuff off the list, which will hopefully calm my parents down. What sandpaper do I need for just the preprimer sanding, during primer sanding, and base sanding? None of the glaze or whatever, right? After Christmas, I may buy some cathodes and that clear plastic spray, but the exterior painting will have to be done in sections over the rest of the school year and summer (unless I somehow came up with a lot of cash that is currently nonexistent ). Thanks for all the help and critique the list I make. I will also rate the sandpaper for effectiveness and it will be evident if it is useful from the photos .

Updated Supplies List

I found a guide to case painting that's an excerpt from a case modding book. Its really detailed and has lots of info. I compiled this list of necessary supplies and parts for case modding at this point (no extra fans, fake ice, or cathodes right now)
Correct me on anything and point out better deals if you find em.

Preprimer sanding just use the 220.

Or better yet if your really trying to save money brother, you can use the 400 grit to scuff up the factory primer on the inside of the case good enough and just use the satin black on top of it since you dont really have the budget to strip off the factory paint/primer and recoat it like i did. The factory primer is more then sufficent if your only going to use the satin black on it. 2 cans is more than enough for the inside , you should have some left over too.

Then just use the primer on the outside and the base coat and clear coat.

What factory primer should I use? The one you recommended? I can purchase the 220 as it would not be any extra from ebay. I want to do a good job and time is not the issue. I called around all the auto refinishing shops in the area (10 miles) and none even sell aerosol. "Nah, we don't sell paint, we just paint cars with it." . I'll get it online then.

No hehe, I was refering to the paint/primer that already on the case on the inside when you bought it the grey color. Just scuff that up with 400 grit real good and spray the satin black on it. 2-3 coats. With proper prep before and durring of course. It will turn out fine trust me as long as you scuff it up good with 400 grit. So you dont have to buy primer if your on a tight budget. Strange bout the shops there you must not have auto refinshing shops for the walk in customers. probebly they just cater to body shops.

LOL, I thought we already decided this. if your going to get the high build primer then you can sand the black paint on the outside 220 grit real good. For just doing the inside you'll only need 220 grit. since you shouldnt sand the satin black paint.

220 grit- \\->
----------------
for the outside paint.
400 grit wet/dry
600 grit wet/dry-
1500 grit wet/dry- only if your going to clear coat it
2000 grit wet/dry --for clear coat if used

Dupli-Color is my favorite easy to find one, works very well... If you can find it House of Colors spray paint is by far the best, just hard to find and expensive.

Sry, I'm very confused. . I'm not going to use the high build primer, but I will be using the base coat. I know I need 220 grit, but I don't know how high of a grit I need if I'm not using clear coat. Sorry for the dumb questions
