not now, maybe later on when bugs are founded and when games begin to use more 4 cores. For now stick with your e8400, and for the rest only future will tell

No. Waste of money. I'd wait with any upgrades if I were you.

I say it would be. Your going from a dual core to a quad core. I'm sure you can push 4.00ghz with the proper cooling.
Only worth it if your parting your system out though and need the performance

hmm well my system is fairly quick atm i gotta say, i just did OS reinstall and wiped my HDD to make way for anew wd raptor. so it seems fast, was jus wondering if it wud have been worth trading my e8400 and buying a i7 core. but that wud mean new mobo and memory needed, the money i dont really have for that atm.

Game wise no gains. 4.0Ghz is fast enough for any games. You are better upgrading GPU if you need more FPS.

No. You would have shot yourself in the foot if you went to i7 from that 8400.

I agree with ZealotKi11er. most games use better dual cores than quad. It is a good fight though, 4ghz dual vs 2.66GHz quad plus HT (= 8 cores), I really can't say
It might be too soon to upgrade, I mean gablain's right. Since you are low on money, sit this one out, I remember reading an article where intel announced an 8 core cpu plus ht = 16 cores; that one could be another story.

hmm im from england so like everything is twice as expensive as in america. For instance over here the 920 core is about $450-$500, then a X58 giga mobo is about $500, then DDR3 ram is about $200. its such an expensive transition!
