It might be too soon to upgrade, I mean gablain's right. Since you are low on money, sit this one out, I remember reading an article where intel announced an 8 core cpu plus ht = 16 cores; that one could be another story.
its same old thing, you buy the best thing 6 months later something else is out which kills your "best thing"...i wish they would just sell cpus then say ok thats it now for 2 years, or even longer! c'est le ve though!

it would only be worth switching to i7 if you do multi-threaded tasks such as rendering, video encoding, ect. If you do those types of things, then yes it would be worth it.

I don't mean to be disrespectful. But think about it, except torture programs, what application utilizes all cores? It is the way motherboards and cpu's work. I mean, you could get more performance with q9500 overclocked to a good level than buying a new board cpu and possibly ram. But that's just me, it is taste too.

Yes you can overclock the i7, that's true but will you see a huge difference, money-performance ratio?

Keep the dual. i7 is not the gamer's choice, and you don't even need a quad anyways.

Only worth it if your parting your system out though and need the performance

He can do that anyways.

At least Wait for westmere. Going i7 now is just EP business.

another vote to stay with the e8400 unless you do heavy photoshop/rendering/encoding work.

Once we hit 32nm there will be gains big enough to justify, but right now, Quads STILL aren't being used by 98% of programs, and clock for clock i7 is the same or worse for gaming.
