its same old thing, you buy the best thing 6 months later something else is out which kills your "best thing"...i wish they would just sell cpus then say ok thats it now for 2 years, or even longer! c'est le ve though!
I'd say no, don't bother. Is your rig slow for what you do? If not, then why upgrade? The core i7 isn't going anywhere--when your rig reaches the point that it isn't quite fast enough for what you want to do, i7 will still be there, and hopefully it will have pushed the prices of the core 2 45nm quads down, and you can just upgrade to one of those without having to get a new mobo and RAM. I know there are differences between the i7 and core 2 quads, but effectively, you're not really getting THAT much more performance given the tasks people require. Yes, i7 is faster clock-for-clock in some apps, but worth the price of a new cpu, motherboard, and RAM? I can't see how it is THAT fast...
