Precisely, but the sheep don't factor that into it. And the Xbox doesn't come with a HDD. At least compare spec for spec

If the PS3 didn't have blu-ray it would most probably be competing at the same price point. I don't see why people think it is an expensive console. But hey, just my opinion.

It's no surprise to me. MS made the right move by selling a handicapped 360 - it's low cost of entry is enticing. But 360 sales are only up 9% over last year which is either good or bad depending on how you look at it - Nintendo is up 108%.

OK.

You can get a 360 with a 60GB HDD + a game for less then £200.

Link if you would like to check yourself: http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?l...pnav-_-bundles

EDIT: Looks like the PS3 deals are all about £100 more.

I have a PS3 and 47" 1080p LCD, and unless I sit 2 feet away from it the difference between DVD and BD is barely noticeable. Normal people buy large TV's for their large living rooms and they sit 20 feet away. This is why normal people will not see much of a difference, let alone enough to drop thousands of dollars on converting their movie collection from DVD to BD.
I still think most people can tell.

Stupid as it sounds, i can tell the difference most with modern animated films. Black Hawk Down was also a good one.

I sit like 15 feet away from my tv (52") and I think i could tell in a "blind test"

Sony sacrificed a total success of the PS3 in order to make Blu-Ray win. Without the PS3, Blu-Ray wouldn't have won, but they put Blu-Ray first and game console second. Its almost sad from the PS3's point of view

Also, Everyone seems to forget that the number of people who can't tell the difference is 1 in 5. Not a majority, but a minority.

Here's a refresher via PC World:

Quote:
A recent survey by the Leichtman Research Group (LRG) shows that 18 percent of HDTV owners think they're watching high-definition shows, when in fact they're viewing standard definition programming. The findings are based on a telephone survey of 1302 U.S. households. This is LRG's sixth annual study on the topic.

It comes with 512MB of built-in memory, which is enough to store over 200 game saves and some user profiles. There is no real need for a HDD for the 360 unless you're big into downloading XBL content. I've owned a 360 since it came out, and the only time I actually needed my 20GB HDD was for the Halo 3 maps and for some of the Oblivion content. Other then that, the 64MB memory card I received for free holds all the content from the 40~ games I own.

My point is, the $199 Arcade package isn't a nerfed SKU of the 360, it's actually the best SKU for the majority of gamers out there. The more expensive HDD versions are for the minority hardcore gamers. Now that we can install games to HDD for faster load times, I am looking into modding my 20GB into the WD 120GB for $60, as for the games I've installed, the loading times are near-instant which is really cool.

It's the economy; most people can't afford the best

That's why Wii is killin it... more than Sony & M$ combined.

Erm, that study has nothing to do with DVD or BD!

That study is for Standard Def Analog TV (640x480) with it's warm & fuzzy look versus true HD Channels (720p & 1080i). The difference between them is quite large and noticeable, for many reasons such as camera quality, lighting improvements between now and the 1990's, resolution increases, frame rate increase, and no EMI Analog interferance going on!

ps3-400 dollars

xbox 360 arcade- 200 dollars
20gb hard drive and wireless controller-~40-80 dollars
wireless-100
HD-dvd (when it was selling lol)-100
total ~460 dollars+live 60 dollars every year.
so what would happen if the ps3 had a line with normal DVD and had a blu-ray add on?
people would get the ps3.
like it or not, 360 is tons more expensive then the ps3.
you don't have to agree but that's me 2cents.
