[CNNMoney] PS3 Flopping this X-mas. - Page 6

The PS3 is a luxury item. It is very hard for a luxury item to compete with cheaper make-do items like the Wii at a time when credit is hard to come by and people aren't willing to dip into their personal assets.

That basically is prolly the #1 reason for any sale drops considering we're not only in an economic depression, but this is the reason the PS3 really hasn't become as popular as it could be. So this one I agree with.
um, DF black hawk down for the ORIGINAL xbox had 50 player TDM, nothing new.

I have always liked the PS3, but i was always able to get a 360 with games for cheaper than the ps3 with no games, so i could never bring myself to buy one. plus, most of the good games released on it (good IMO, ones i would buy) arent PS3 exclusive, they are either on the PC or the 360, so it was just easier for me to use a little less money and upgrade my computer, then buy the games for PC ($50 instead of 60 )

when it drops to the $250 range i will pick one up for sure. until then, sorry sony, i already have a blu-ray player.

Also im pretty sure the higher priced 360's are already factored in to those numbers.
Your post was almost complete irrelevant to a console doing good. Just because Sony may be loosing money on producing PS3s, does not mean the console is doing bad.

Um - Halo, Gears of War, (hell can't even think of a decent Wii game atm) and all those other games are nothing new but that doesn't mean they aren't good.

Yea it would seem I did contradict myself there Although I do stand by both statements. The idiots that spout the same old arguments are the ones that have been heard by the public, I can almost bet a large sum of money that a fair few people have decided against the PS3 just because some idiot spouted it was 'too expensive' or the 'games library is poor' when neither is true. Sure they are opinionated but it still isn't true. I could turn round and say 'In my opinion the Xbox 360 library sucks' and it would be a valid opinion, but is it true? No of course not.

The PS3 library is fairly strong, with some awesome games in it both exclusive and non exclusive.

Then like I said about the price point, I stand by the fact that it isn't expensive. Is it an opinion? Yes

Funnily enough, back when the HD movie war was going on. Imagine if HD-DVD won, I can almost bet the HD-DVD players wouldn't have dropped in price. Would the fanboys be moaning right now about 'expensive XBOX's'....not a chance. They would have made excuse after excuse to justify the price point.

Anyways, that was all Off Topic lol

Actually I avoided the individual games for a reason: its all opinion based. I'm looking at the broader picture. MGS isn't a big advantage because its just ONE GAME, and not everyone wants to play it. Both consoles play games, both consoles have exclusives, thats all that matters.

Thank you. While MGS4 is a fantastic game to a hardcore gamer, it will not be a killer app to the mainstream simply because its too hardcore. The real killer apps for consoles are games like Halo/GoW, because everybody and their brother wants to play them.

blu-ray has good video, but people are also forgetting about the TrueHD sound.... a "full-high def" experience if you want to call it.

My view as a semi-impartial person on today's consoles (just because, not that I think anyone will care haha):

- Xbox 360 sales went up "only" 9% because everyone already has one. When it dominates the gamer market, you're not going to see huge increases every quarter.
- Wii: Wii Fit was a great addition to this console, as it draws in even more casual gamers who want to do something (mildly) physically active while having fun. My gf and I bought one together, and it's definitely fun to play together, though I doubt I'd be playing it much by myself. In the colder months, when people tend to stay indoors, at least they can do something involving movement and not just get fatter.
- PS3: I know people--actually, ONE person to be honest, who has this console. He loves it, and he has converted his entire DVD collection to Blu-ray already. But as an outsider with limited exposure, here's why I don't have any interest in getting this console:
- it's expensive (duh)
- yes, Blu-ray looks nicer, but DVDs still look pretty good and don't have me grumbling to myself for better. Plus, there's a side of me that really, really doesn't want to start relegating my whole movie collection to outdated tech. I prefer to hold on until I can't any longer.
- there might some good games, but nothing catches me as must-have. If I played them, I might feel differently, but that's the point. There just aren't any titles that generate enough hype for me (or other people) to take the plunge. Maybe it's just me, but doing a FF7 remake would've gone a long way. No idea why Sony never did this.
- Not enough people have a PS3, so the online community would be dead in comparison to the 360 (or at least we outsiders would think).
- I love Guitar Hero, but when I played GH3 on the PS3, I noticed lag/delay because the controller had a separate wireless adapter. No idea why they dropped the ball on this and didn't use the built-in wireless. As a hardcore guy, this split second delay is annoying and unacceptable. The 360 doesn't ever seem to have these kinds of issues.
- DLC is much better on the 360. I remember people would complain constantly on the TES boards (Oblivion, etc.) about the lack of support for PS3 owners. Even more reason not to become one.

It was hard to imagine Sony losing their previous dominance (PS2), but yea. That's what they get for slacking on these issues. Hopefully they get it right for the PS4, but there were too many missteps this time around.

I don't get it, did someone write a rule back that I have missed somewhere? Is there a law that says:

If said person buys a PS3 they must convert ALL DVD's to Blu-Ray immediately.

No ones forcing you to give up a DVD a player or convert your library to Blu-Ray. In fact no one is forcing anyone to watch Blu-Ray at all. Just my personal opinion but I wouldn't even take movie format into consideration when buying a gaming machine.

*Note to people: You can still keep your DVD player and have a PS3, the Blu-Ray police will not rape you!

I do agree though, I can't tell the different between Blu-Ray and DVD so I just don't buy Blu-Ray'...it's really that simple.

I don't know what this 'lag' is that you are talking about. I guess we all have our personal preferences when it comes to some games though, which is fair enough.

I don't understand the thing about the online community though. There are millions of people with a PS3, you wouldn't even notice the difference in players between the 360 and PS3 online. It isn't as if you would struggle to get a game or bump into the same person each and every time you play.

I'm sounding like a PS3 fanboy now
