[CNNMoney] PS3 Flopping this X-mas. - Page 8

Well my personal experience is that there isn't a whole lot of difference between blu-ray and upscaled DVD on my 42" Panasonic 1080p Plasma tv. If anything, i enjoy the Dvds more because some blu-ray movies have a weird thing going on like they photoshopped it. Wall-e did not have this issue but Ironman definitely did.

In comparison between the regular Ironman and the Blu-Ray, the blu-ray one was clearer but it had moments where the images were so altered that they looked cartoonish and fake. A prime example of this is during the opening sequence with the Humvees. In the Blu-ray, the dust trailing the hummer was obviously altered and it made it look very fake. The hummers were pulled out from the background for a more 3d feel, making it feel fake again. Lastly, when the camera zooms behind the hummer and the guy on top manning the turret pivots around, it's so obviously altered that it is just sad. Plus, the movie seemed to lose it's 'movie feel' and felt more like i was watching a live-tv soap opera or a live-action/interactive video game.

Personally, if they continue to play with the image like they obviously did in Ironman then I won't be buying another blu-ray movie ever. If it's just a clearer version of dvd, then I'll buy others like i did with Wall-E

sidenote: I did watch the Ironman Blu-ray on a sony blu-ray player, and when we popped in the dvd version of the matrix, it was doing the same thing so it might be the player more than the movie. I dunno.

Meh, i would say that most can tell a difference between SD and HD and what they mean is most can't tell a difference between 720p and 1080p.

My espn HD is so obviously different that it'd be ridiculous if someone couldn't tell a difference.

Agreed. I can barely tell the difference between movies in 720p and 1080p, but when it comes to regular definition and high definition, there is a HUGE difference.

I'm not surprised that the PS3 is flopping, simply because of the pricetag. The economy has everyone being much more fickle with their cashflow.

Uh, Resistance 2 and GT Prologue were not AAA titles. GT Prologue was not even released this winter...

And how is "Best Original Score" and "Best Graphics" considered winning big? Also, both of those were won by MGS4, the only game from your list to have won anything.

Out of the four titles you listed, two are so "niche" that they won't sell many consoles to the mainstream. Most people that want to play MGS4 have either bought a PS3 already or are waiting for it to go multiplatform.

No one seems to mention another huge reason why Ps3 is flopping: Blu-Ray dvd players are $150 right now! Did anyone really think they would get this low? That completely undercuts part of the Ps3's main appeal. Add in the fact that all the new Ps3's don't play Ps2 games and there you go.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that Blu-ray players had gotten that low. I think I might try to convince my dad to get one for the family's HDTV, then.

Resistance 2 is certainly a AAA title, absolutely.

I do question GT Prologue being called AAA though...it's essentially a demo.

Be cautious with the uber-cheap players, though. You want to make sure it supports that Blu-Ray 2.0 profile, or whatever it's called...I think the really cheap ones don't, they are trying to clear those off the shelves with steep discounts.

If playstation home turns out to be as good as XBL and still remain free, then I will be selling my 360 and getting a PS3. Paying for online access just isnt right, I already pay my ISP to get online, I shouldnt have to pay microsoft to play with MY 360 online too.
Playstation Home has pretty much nothing to do with XBL. Home is an app, not a platform for playing online games.
