Yeah since a lot of Blu Ray players can also stream Netflix HD which is something the PS3 doesn't do.

upscaled DVD looks almost well not really, but regular joe blow wont be able to tell the difference on smallers tvs between blu ray and upscaled dvds. Imagine showing blu ray to your buddies on a little 19incher whoo hoo......

Normal people buy large TV's for their large living rooms and they sit 20 feet away. This is why normal people will not see much of a difference, let alone enough to drop thousands of dollars on converting their movie collection from DVD to BD.
I can't tell to be honest.

Last time I did the reasearch (a couple weeks ago), there are only three BR players that do Netflix - one by LG and two by Samsung. The Sammies didn't natively support it though, they required firmware updates.

These numbers might have changed recently, but the number of players that don't do netflix far exceed the number of players that do.

BD-Live, i.e. internet connectivity is mandatory. Larger required local storage, too.

The Wikipedia article has a nice chart comparing the different profiles. It's not cut-and-pasting as a nice table though, so I'll just let you click the link. Scroll down to the "Player profiles" section.

My espn HD is so obviously different that it'd be ridiculous if someone couldn't tell a difference.
The difference between the SDTV's of the 90s and todays HDTV's are in my opinion astounding. We've always had SD-CRT-TV's in our house up until I got a PS3 2 years back and I got a 32" HDTV. I was absolutely gobsmacked. No consumer can deny the fact that (for example) planet earth on blu-ray with a 1080p HDTV looks better than anything. Even cinema. Every one who walks into the TV store with the big HDTV on blu-ray just stands and stares. There's no denying that HD is a huge step forward. Not just in vision but in sound.

As far as the comparison between 720p and 1080p goes, you won't tell the difference between the two until you watch a screen of 40 inches or higher. My 32" is 1080i and at that level I cant tell the difference between it and the equivalent larger 1080p tv. At that level the only difference is the way the pixels are displayed on the screen. A larger set will show up the difference. Personally even the difference between upscaled DVD and blu-ray is great. It all depends on the blu-ray your watching though. Some blu-rays are not enhanced by the publisher, but simply output at a larger resolution. If you watch pixar movies or as mentioned earlier planet earth, every minor detail is outlined far greater on blu-ray. Opinions aside. Blu-ray does give up to 4 times more picture quality than DVD and opportunity for an immense amount of special features. Fact.

And how is "Best Original Score" and "Best Graphics" considered winning big? Also, both of those were won by MGS4, the only game from your list to have won anything.

Out of the four titles you listed, two are so "niche" that they won't sell many consoles to the mainstream. Most people that want to play MGS4 have either bought a PS3 already or are waiting for it to go multiplatform.
If you look at the list at the VGA's those titles popped up alot as runners-up in almost every category. Especially littlebigplanet and MGS4. Infact, more PS3 exclusives made an appearance in the awards than 360. Which is something worth noting. Most titles are cross-platform though.

Resistance 2 was an AAA title. It was amongst the top 5 shooters of the year. Runner up in both best mutli-player and best shooter. I don't understand what reason you have for denying its AAA status. Other than sheer bias against a game you probably havent even played.

GT5: Prologue was a big release earlier this year for driving fans. Even if its not the full game it still sold well. I included it in the list for the sake of mentioning it. I'd also like to know which games you consider 'niche'. If you're referring to littlebigplanet? one of the most original games to come to a next-gen platform. Its VERY popular at the moment and that includes people in the 'mainstream'. If not it wouldnt be selling so well. And it wouldnt have got its developers studio of the year award or been a runner up for Game of the year would it? Either you refuse to even consider that there are good games on the PS3 through plain bias towards the 360, or you're very hard to impress..

Could be in part due to the low prices on Blu-ray drives and players. I saw an internal blu-ray drive for $70. And a stand alone Samsung for $179.

Wal-mart had a crap brand for about $130. The PS3 is still the best blu-ray player, but it's no longer the cheapest.

Let me ask you considering I don't have Netflix.
On your computer, can you stream Netflix HD from your web browser? If so - then the PS3 can also stream Netflix HD without a problem too.
As of right now - the PS3 can do pretty much 3/4 of the stuff any normal web browser can. It just limited because it's a console and not a full computer. But - you can stream Netflix via the PS3's web browser fine. So if Netflix HD is available via PC - then it's available via PS3 too.

And, there are programs out there for you computer that will enable the PS3 to stream Netflix or even Hulu.com from it. That is, if you don't like the PS3's web browser.

I tried to stream netflix from the broswer last night and it doesn't work. It says the browser is incompatible. Sites like Hulu and Youtube work fine though.
