Phenom II opinions on mobo...???

Thread Starter
Hey guys, im just thinking and reading stuff about the incoming X4 940 and i kinda dig it... the fact that it will work on an AM2+ socket makes it appealing to my 790FX (tho SB600) mobo...

I currently own a 9950BE, and was thinking if anyone had any news about how it will compare to PII 940 (or even 920 and 910), especially if anyone got any info on how the Phenom II's will run on "older" SB600 mobos. I know the 790GX will run it great but im wondering if it will be the same as 9950 on 790FX (SB600) vs 790GX (SB750)...

I don't necesserily need true data (not that anyone would have it before 20th) just wanted to hear everyones opinons on the subject!!!

Would you think it would be worthwile to change from 790FX (SB600) to a 790GX (SB750) and wait for january and upgrade from 9950BE to PII 920 or 940 or even 910...

Just throw out som opinions if you got some...

BTW ---- NOT INTERESTED ABOUT CORE i7 ----

nor the AMD vs Intel stuff, nor Intel is better posts plz...

Thanks for sharing

Personally, I'd buy the 780FX, the SB750 will squeeze a better overclocking(it may be slight) but it may see better overclocking on the Phenom II. You have a DFI mobo, I'd go with this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136057

Or just stick with your current mobo.

Problem with the GX models, if you want to run crossfire they only do 8x (Of course there isn't much difference when comparing 8x vs. 16x performance wise).

It would be best to wait until phenom II actually comes out and gets tested.

I can almost guarantee you that there will be pissed off people when they find that their mobo, that was on the phenom II compatibility list, arent actually compatible.

Plus I bet there will be some mobo's not on the compatibility list that might actually work with it.

Its better to just play it safe and wait another month.

I agree with this post and is exactly what I'll be doing: waiting in the bushes and watching. +REP btw.

Yup that seems like the best thing to do... but the reason for posting this, and asking you guys is the following...

It's all about the $$$ ...
If im gonna upgrade to PII i oughta sell (or exchange) my board (if needed) ASAP to aviod further loss in $$$... I'm guessing when PII's are released 790FX-SB600 mobos will further drop in price?! But tht must be just me freaking out, cuz im out of money

Anyone really thinks some PII's will be released on 16th of december as some rumours say?

LOL what sucks bigtime is that after i bought this board (altho i have to admit its an awesome board) the 790FXb's and 790GX's came out at the same price as this one, even cheaper... that was like 2 weeks after i bought mine...

But the point with me buying a new rig is:

At first i wanted Intel + nVidia... all was prepared, money on the table, 400euros, been ready for weeks, and then all of a sudden... wham, bam, X2 6400+, 3870 DDR4 for 600euros ... happens every time to me... can't help it.. love AMD

P.S. we have the same case too, and we obviously love Thermalright... cheers mate... my CM is moded too, just didn't reveal it yet...

I know i wrote this in Phenom II thread, but i'm so happy that i have to post it here too....

From the CPU-Z Validation page, and i quote:

#3)
Mark_Chou reached 4180.74 MHz with an AMD Phenom II (45 nm)
MB : Asus M3A32-MVP DELUXE (AMD 790FX rev 00) - RAM : Team Group Inc. 2048 MB

Dude actually overclocked it dam' good with a 790FX-SB600 board... so no upgrading necessary yet for us SB600 owners!!!

Hear that PepsiLove?! We're set... http://valid.canardpc.com/records.php

Everyone knows as much as the other guy.

There have only been a few benchmarks released, mostly comparing to intell's i7 cpu's. and even those seem to be made up or inaccurate.

It'll be a few weeks before we actually get to see the real deal. Till then, its just another impatient wait for every desperate guy out there
